Bore on my RC k98, minty? Shooting it tomorrow!

What people used to call "excellent" before some Dbag on gunbroker wanted to get "mint" condition value but have an out incase the customer complained about something.
You don't see too many RCs with that nice of a bore. Got a BNZ 44 that has a bore in similar shape.

I remember when folks wouldn't touch a milsurp rifle unless it had a bore like that. Now they'll buy anything, and often for big $$$.

One came through here last month, and a sewer pipe would've said "Wow, that bore is whipped!"
Maybe those rifles were for issue to "Tier III" irregulars or export to Ethiopia...

I trust that they exist. I just recall handling scores of them back when they were still being imported. I would say that only a few had sharp and shiny bores. But absolutely garbage ones? I may have seen one or two.
Who knows, maybe they sent them as aid to third world countries.

This matches my recollection. When the big batches of them were coming in in the early 00s a good bore was pretty much an expectation. Maybe not perfect, but at least good.
Was this because thrashed bores weren't refurbed and just tossed, or was it because importers were getting the pick of the litter back then? Beats me, but for a solid period of time from ~2000-2010 an RC was a solid suggestion if you wanted a K98k shooter without any headaches worrying about bore quality. I remember recommending to a lot of people that they step up and throw down a whole $120 on a RC rather than cheaping out on a $60 Turkish rifle, mostly because I was tired of going to Big 5 to help people sort stacks of Turks to find good bores.
