BNZ43 SSZZA2 Double Claw Mount K98 - Fresh From The Attic

Why do you think your rifle needs an early type dow scope? I’d love to read the thread that makes that determination.
Because of the year and serial number I was told that the early model scope with focus ring would be the correct one. Tough find though. Those early scopes don't come up like the later scopes not that the later ones come up that often either.

Well, note your rifle has a (19)44 dating barrel .. so likely SS repair prior to the sniper conversion.

Overall, you need to know that Waffenwerke Brünn did the sniper conversion for the SS. They tried to persuade the SS to buy newly made guns by Brünn for the conversion, but the SS went with supplying 5000 rifles to be converted to sniper rifles. This means the SS provided the guns to them, then they got shipped back to Oranienburg, where they were "accepted" (--> received the SSZZA2 stamp as proof of acceptance). This means there is absolutely no way to determine whether your rifle has had the "first type" scope with focal adjustment or the second type originally (unless you have the matching numbers scope of course); the rifles were supplied to Brünn as the SS had them to be shipped out. And for what I remember this didn't start until 1944 (or at least late 1943) at all anyway, would need to check the documents for exact date when finally "approved".
