bnz 4 Rune Found At LGS

I think we've reached the limit of the information / observation spectrum. I was going to post until I read all the threads. I've nothing more to add really. Steyr did hand stamp the "bnz" as shown, and on Radom pistols as well. It certainly is a handstamp on the OP rifle and could be good. However, after that it looks like someone turdified and polished it up, ruining the barreled action, which is the only thing legit. The humper had some knowledge, but not enough.

I had hoped especially those who named the rifle to be a turd would give reasons for their assumptions. Probably they saw something I did not see, that was what I wanted to know.
And of course I had hoped that the original thread starter would post more pictures on this rifle, especially to show the barrel bands and if they are serialized, also if the stock bears any numbers on the inside.

I think the barreled receiver is legitimate, most SR handstamps are no suffix rifles (though refinished); here are some 2012 pictures of the underside, it has a SDP barrel, though the lot is incomplete. The bands were not shown in 2012, I suspect they were not serialed like the picture the OP posted earlier.

These in original condition are hens teeth, impossible to find. It would be difficult to be 100% sure what is right with these, the L-O Army rifles are more numerous and some trends have been possible, but the vast majority of SR handstamps are barreled receivers.

Again with the pictures! Any idea how many you've documented over the years? The "reach" of this forum is quite impressive.

The bands were not stamped with serial numbers. I couldn't make it to the LGS on Saturday; it is closed on Sunday and Monday. Will stop by Tuesday and see if it sold. However, the photos from 2012 posted above were of the same rifle. It's too bad, per the consensus here, that it was refinished. Otherwise, it might have been a decent bolt MM rifle. Nevertheless I'll update if the rifle is still there tomorrow.

By the way, what is the general opinion on the value of this rifle? When I saw it for sale on consignment, the seller wanted nearly $1,200. What is its legitimate worth?

A blessing... that you waited and weren't the "winner" that paid $1200 for this rifle.
