bnz 4 m block handstamp on salvage BSW receiver was it all original?

This just went across the auction block, I don't know enough about these to go all in so skipped it. Had matching bolt, barrel, and floorplate. At best someone got a great deal, at worst it was a sporter rescue
What gave me concern:
Unnumbered bands (the ones in the sticky all have serialed bands)
Possible remnants of a post war serial on the side of stock
Possible filled in scope hole on rear of receiver

It seems the hand stamped, salvage receiver part is legit as it falls right in the reported blocks. It also sure looks like filled holes from a peep sight on the receiver.
 
How rare are the salvaged receivers? Worth putting up with metal repairs for the right price if you needed one for your collection, or still a hard pass?

Metal that's been cut on is almost always a very firm red line for me, but I don't have any real understanding of how uncommon these are.

That's somewhat hard to answer and up to the individual I'd guess. They appear for around 25k or so worth of production but not all are of the type. I don't have enough hard data, but it seems bcd diverts and new ordinance spares make up the majority with salvage rounding out the receivers.

Yeah, the bright shiny spot down towards the bottom of the blemish makes me think a screw hole that was covered up, but I've been wrong before. Could have been something brased on there at one point too?

Either way, whatever was done there was done after the bluing.

They did go with a reduced S/N routine in the m block, but it seems it was an all or nothing deal and not piecemeal. If the FP is numbered the bands and safety should be too. With unnumbered bands the FP and safety should also be unnumbered. At least that's my understanding.
 
I know enough to get myself in trouble but there's a lot of variation in this series. All I could tell was I knew the numbers were good and in the correct block for the variation. I wasn't sure if it was a scope hole on the rear or just an imperfection they tried to clean up during production and why it was a salvage receiver. Glad I caught the red flags.

With Loewe data trends I can see 2 other BSW salvage receivers with the same RR a few thousand earlier and that the barrel code DX BS/1 falls right in the 3xxx m timeframe.
