AX 41 4838 g "e/KG69" marked.

This one I grabbed in 2021 from GB. This has a capture paper with a legit address too my state. Rifle seems to still be factory matching so I'm unsure why it was KG69 marked. Will get more pics later of a full tear down and pic of the capture paper. Seems old enough and worn/weathered enough for the paper to be legit. But you guys decide, ya'll got much more experience and seen way more than me.

It’s actually Kg 69, Königsburg
Got it, thank you for the correction, I will edit the thread title. Been almost a year since I looked at the depot rifle section of volume 2b. 4 more K98K's to go after I finish a picture session with this rifle. The capture paper has a outfit attached to it (cactus division) so I'm somewhat hopeful I can get a service record with his service number and possibly guess where he got the rifle. Researching German divisions is gonna be.....fun 🫠😵‍💫 although I imagine any units out of Konigsburg would be the ones to look at for a start.

very nice... had some depot work but I can't pick up on what was done. I assuming stock work.
Didn't get the pics today but the magazine and tang of this rifle sit "proud" and it looks like the tang is actually missing wood from a very, very long time ago. Makes me wonder if it had accuracy issues or a crack started to form which sorta constituted a trip too Königsburg?

Very nice! My AX 41 is a "g" block too.
Nice! If you have a thread on your rifle with pics I would love to see it. I can only dream what my example would have looked like in regards to the barrel bands etc when picked up. I'll get more pics tomorrow but my rifle I think possibly came out of a weapons crate/storage facility because the bolt is super sticky with grease and the follower/chamber area also has grease all up in it. Could have been added later tho because there was a BYF 43 brought back by a Navy veteran on a LST who covered his trophy in cosmoline to protect it. The auction even had a B&W picture of him holding the rifle and was put up for auction from the family.

Cool rifle, would love to see the paper if you get a chance.
That will be included in the pics added to this thread tomorrow. The paper has a address to Tulsa, OK as the shipping recipient. Which I'm roughly 30 mins from and I work in West Tulsa. I was abit aww struck when I seen the auction photo of the paper. This rifle came from "Sarah15" on GB which is either out of UT or ID so I was determined to get this rifle back to Oklahoma.

In 2016 and 2017 this rifle was listed w/o the BB paper, no mention was made in either auction that I saw but the 2020 paper was listed and photographed... not saying I know the facts with certainty, but maybe this raises some suspicions as it didn't make reserve in 2016 or 2017

attached find the 2020 BB paper (prior auctions didn't show one or make mention - that I noted or saved...)

Rare Erma made AX 41 marked Kar98K rfile in good condition. Rare code and year, last for K98K production at Erma. All matching rifle with original sling. Good condition, overall would rate 85%, good bore, wood and metal nice the front band has weak finish. This is a very hard to find 98k code and year in all matching cond. H marked stock which is numbered inside and out.

2017 text, better pics but too few and no papers - it did sell though this time but the seller is a mystery:

One of the rarest codes to locate, and the one that everybody wants in there collection, we have an all matching Erma made AX41 coded K98k Service Rifle. Rarer than even the BSW code, the AX code was used for only a short time in 1941 until Erma concentrated on making MP40 sub-machine guns. It is estimated that only .06% of all the 98ks manufactured had this code. This rifle is a bit combat salty but has not been messed with, it is all matching and the bore is excellent. The stock is quite nice and the cartouches are untouched and very clear. The many advanced Mauser collectors that we serve will recognize what a real find it is to lock one of these very scarce rifles up for their collection. This is one of the big prizes of 98k collecting and this is the third one we have had in nearly 30 years.

I want to say that my intention is not to take a "crappy" on this rifle but I do question the papers, - not my area of interest at all but some here might have a valid opinion

In short it could be legit but I do find it strange it was not mentioned until 2020 though it is true 2016 & 2017 auctions were "picture poor"- the 2020 auction had at least 45 good pictures and 2016 & 2017 combined was only 31 and many of them were worthless...

Thanks for your research! With the rifle coming out of state and being a legitimate address in downtown Tulsa It does give me SOME what of a feeling as to being legitimate but only one way to find out and that is a records check thru a private investigator of the vet service number and family name history research. I also have a 1899 Spandau with a service number stamped into the butt plate so when I get the chance (aka funds) I'll also have that Gewehr 98m and this rifle researched. If the paper is humped then no sweat off my nose. Just more of and excuse to clean it up, shoot it and toss a humped piece of paper in the trash.

The papers may very well be legit, but the issue with fairly generic papers like this (listing "1 German Gun") is that it's pretty trivial to buy the document from a vet's estate and match it to any gun you want.

Basically look at the papers, then look in your safe, and start to think what a dishonest person could do. Got a P08 you want to unload as papered?

(it gets worse if you start thinking like really dishonest scumbag. Got a bolt m/m you want to renumber and get "matching" value from? Want people to not look too closely at your work AND get the price bump that a papered example would have? Note that I'm not saying anything about your gun or claiming it's humped, just illustrating the possibilities for a fairly generic capture paper in the wrong hands.)

Perfectly reasonable assumption and I'm sure it's happened before.

Here's my first thread seeking advice about it. Pictures aren't there anymore though as I was using Photobucket at the time. It's been 11 years since I picked it up. Doesn't seem like that long ago.

Here's a link to the second thread about it.

My pictures at the time were on Photobucket and I deleted that account long ago. Here's a few pictures on my Imgur account. I need to go back and reupload the initial detailed pictures to Imgur one of these days.
