Another Gew-88

I picked up a nice 1891 Amberg Gew-88 , S Z dot , matching bolt with sling for cheap in GB . Looks like a WWI bring back as it looked like it had been in a closet for decades . Nobody bid on this one and I got for less than 1/2 of what they pay for common 05's or SA junk . It gives me all the makers for 1891 now in 88 and 05 . I do not post phots of my rifles on the public internet , sorry .

Also it has a .3245 groove barrel . Z is the .323 spec , but I have never got one that small . They all run .324 + .

I need your photos to answer your questions . You do not have to post them if you do not want to . I do not have a camera nor do I want my rifles to be public knowledge . I did allow a friend to post some rare ones a while back and the photos ended up being used by someone else . My latest rifle has a standard matching Gew-88 rear sight .

But I did not have to find someone to take them to post . Also it is not connected to me . Some of you guys like taking all kinds of photos of your stuff , fine that is what you like to do . I have way too many things to take photos of and I would rather spend my time working up loads to shoot them plus all the other things I have to do . I have to record all that data and just do not feel like adding more by photos .

Even setting aside asking photos of others while not sharing photos of your own guns, a thread like this is just boring without pics.

Congrats on your rifle, sounds like you have a really good collection. Having all the makers for a year in both original and 05 is pretty impressive.

But honestly that means nothing to anyone else without some way to meaningfully share in your accomplishment, and on the internet that means pics.

So you're telling us about a rifle that you won without showing any photos? Sounds like a great fisherman's story and I love a good fisherman's story. Not trying to be rude but 99% of all cell phones nowadays have cameras. 😉

Makes me think it's a concern about security, making it public exactly what you own and how much of it you have. Which, I get. Ultimately it's telling the world that you have many thousands - perhaps tens of thousands, perhaps even more - of dollars worth of desirable things in your house.

But, again, at that point you're back into "so why are you talking about them online at all" territory.

I just want everybody to know I have a completely all matching 1889 Erfurt Gew88 in my collection. It's still chambered in the original early 7.92x57 cartridge and unit marked to Pioneer Regiment. Plus it served at the Battle of Tannenberg. But I'm not going to show any pictures of it. So there you go, but just know I have it!

Funny, since we are sharing good stuff, I guess now is the time to talk about that 1898 Dated WMO I have unit marked to the Garde du Corps. All matching, factory and mint...binder of provenance too with a picture of the guy holding it showing it to the Kaiser

Well I can tell you this my rifle was used by some Austrian Corporal in the Great war that turned out to be famous later on in his life!

Really I bet that rifle was test-fired by the Kaiser himself using that old withered hand!

Well if we are sharing good stories. I will have to confess something. I was the one who fired the first shoot at Lexington and Concord. It was me who fired the shot heard around the world. I hit the wrong button on my time machine. I was meaning to go back to 1955 but accidentally typed in 1775. I even forgot to take my camera. Now my story doesn't even sound cool. 😁
