Amberg 1916

Hi All,

Michael was kind enough to pass along this Amberg 1916. I really like this gun; it's a real warhorse and pretty much totally factory, less the floor plate and follower. My theory is the floor plate and follower were probably lost when this rifle had an extended magazine affixed. Like every wartime Amberg it's consistent, C/G on most of the parts. Enjoy.

Sam, that looks much better than the older photos. The grain on that wood is absolutely beautiful-- I'm glad Mike C. was kind enough to send it your way.

Nice and textbook all the way around. Not much else I can say, given how consistent Amberg was with their acceptance patterns.

Damn, another nice 1916 Gewehr 98 and there's a certain charm to those nice honest warhorses that makes them all the more appealing. The Bavarian fireproof is always neat to see, great pics on this one!

Added this link to the Amberg study, Mike had provided the data before, but Sam did such a great display here it is worth two links! Amberg was the only arsenal to maintain commercial (WMO-DWM) quality during the war, - this was a hard time for Germany and the war, DWM and Spandau really had troubles with labor strikes (only broken with threats of drafts for strikers who would not go back to work... only a damn fool would risk a draft with Verdun underway...)

** I really hope to get Wolfgang's study populated properly, - silly me, it would have been a simple matter to include RR, BC, etc.. with the codes originally (at the start), now it is a big task to do the updates backfilling.
