Ac44 k43

[Wolfsburg]

Well, I bought this old K43 warhorse a few months ago. This is the first of the breed for me and admittedly I am still learning. Neat combination of bluing and phosphating and complete and matching excepting a missing cleaning rod. I'm assuming a typical 12.5in 98k rod will suffice? It came with a spare firing pin and locking lug in the buttstock. I still haven't bought a Apfeltor kit for it but certainly will before I ever shoot it. The trigger pull is pretty long but I understand that can be adjusted? Think I may try to find a nice late-war sling for it too.

Very nice! The panel cut receiver is way cool. These guns are so much fun to research and collect, no shortage of variations like your receiver which is not as often encountered.

Wow, for your first G/K43 that looks like a great piece that is hard to beat. I am fortunate to currently own nine of these rifles and have owned several before, however I have never handled a panel cut rifle nor have I been lucky enough to add one to the collection.

Congratulations, it looks great. The spare part in the butt stock is most likely an extractor and not a locking lug.

Thanks gentlemen! I'm glad to have it though she's not exactly as minty as some we see around here! Model, yours is beautiful! The panel cut was part of the appeal for me and I find the differing placement of the stamping within the panel cut interesting. One would think that the ones with stamping oriented to the left would have had the serial also stamped within the cut but the space was left empty for whatever reason. Then we see the ones that have the stamping centrally located. I would've assumed these came later, perhaps after it became clear no serial would be stamped in the cut, though my q block obviously came after Model's p block. Maybe I have it backwards?

Also, to me the wrist stamp appears to be WaA359 but my understanding was that the stocks with the more squared profile ahead of the magwell were WaAC10 marked?

WaAC10 should be stamped closer to the butt plate.

Nice. For some reason relatively late 44 q,p blocks are majority panel cut.

Thanks, Armen. I've seen that as well. I wonder if these were a batch of earlier unused panel cut receivers or did they just randomly decide to try the panel cut idea again that late in the game?
