Hey all, I'm a history buff in Florida looking to start up a collection. I found this Mauser Kar98k on the wall of the shop, and i am quite tempted to buy it, but i would like to get a projection of the value beforehand.

Not just value, i am curious to know more about the rifle. All the components are mix n matched, but he floor plate is milled. The barrel is marked 1940 ax but the barrel bands are the late war stamped and welded. The bayonet lug is present but the cleaning rod is missing. I cannot find a Russian X indicating capture, but it sure looks like the Ruskies rebuilt it at one point.

How about a few more pictures of the stock, overall rifle, butt plate and any import marks. The more pictures the better.

Last photo of barrel band. Rifle still has original design barrel band retainer.

I called the shop earlier today and asked them to send any photos of any markings they could. Unfortunately the shop is about 50 minutes away, so better pictures are unavailable for now.

Also, the price was originally 898, i managed to bring it down to 500.

Check underside of barrel near muzzle Bernado or ask them to check for import mark. I bought a BYF years back that was marked C.A.I. 8MM. Gun imported by Century Arms Importers. Glad you got him down on the price. $500 is a more sensible price for a 98 such as this one.

A 40 Erma is not one of the most common codes/date to find. At $500 you are just a little north of RC price. Your pictures do not show the entire stock, assuming it is not cut up or heavily sanded, The price is ok. $450 would be a buy in my opinion in todays market. If I had it and were selling it that is what I would value it at.
(the above assumes the unseen parts of the rifle have no major deficiencies)

How is the bore? If it's not bright, shiny and sharp, I'd walk away at any price above $300. Life is too short to buy refinished mismatched guns with crap barrels. If it is good, $400-450 is probably workable. I'd aim for the lower end if possible.
