1939 337 Code (Gustoff-Werke) info/opinions
I'm considering posting this for auction on Gunbroker but want to get my facts straight on the re-stamped items beforehand. I hate to list with inaccurate information, so here I am.
Specifically is this all a legitimate depot rebuild? Note that it is a duffel-cut bolt-mismatch. Note the numbered or renumbered stock and the 1940 date under the butt plate.
Although it clearly has a protective finish/varnish on it, which I've chosen to not mess with, it is also devoid to my eye of any external markings less the "P" on the underbelly.
I would assume the stock has been at least lightly sanded before the varnish applied but the reasonably crisp corner at both the cross-lug and takedown disk cutouts suggest light
sanding at the most, yet it is devoid of any acceptance stamps or Heer of Luftwaffe identifiers. Opinions please on what you can assume has happened to this rifle based on the images.
FWIW, I think I bought this rifle from a fellow forum member a few years back.

Renumbering looks period IMO. Replacement stocks were typically not marked aside from the maker and WaA acceptance. It would probably have depot acceptance, but the stock has been well sanded.

What Ryan said. The value was reduced by the stock cleaning. We could have nailed down the depot perhaps. Asterisk part canceling is indicative of what, Kg?
