Trigger guard and floorplate should be numbered. Odd because the follower matches. Possible legit replacement but I think the stocks been sanded and cleaned so finding a repair mark to prove it will be difficult.

I may be off base here but the stock internal serial has an overstrike in the third digit, the 43 on the receiver looks mighty shallow, and is the rear sight body off center line or is it just the angle of the camera over the rifle?

First off, this is an ongoing auction and discussion of ongoing auctions is not allowed on this site.
However, I will tell you that as a beginning collector you should likely note this seller's name and forget about bidding in his auctions. I am not saying that all his items are bad, only that the 98k's he sells frequently have issues and that you would do better not going there. To his credit he does typically have good photos. Unfortunately if one does not know what to look for or what he is seeing then this is of minimal benefit.
I do not like the stock on this rifle. At best it has been enhanced and at worst it has been renumbered. The markings in the barrel channel look like there may be some over-stamping of markings and the external stock numbering does not look right. Making a mistake and buying a rifle with a renumbered stock is an $800 plus mistake. No reason to take that chance considering no one is holding a gun to your head.

Books, including the ones written by the site owners, and the plethora of information on this website. Just use the search function and you'll probably find multiple threads on rifles, parts, accesories etc. The picture reference forum also has a metric shite ton of examples to compare questionable examples too.
Books are an excellent place to start. Before I buy some rifles I look for a known "good" example for comparison. Look at the photos from an auction and compare to the same year/code combination posted here in the reference section. It is hard to learn 98k's quickly. My best advice is to buy the books, read them, follow the various discussion boards and to always compare rifles you are considering to photos of rifles you know are good. Take your time. The penalty for buying humped rifles is the loss of large amounts of cash quickly.
Yes I know about books ,etc., i just feel by doing all this reading and comparing something good might slip by.

Well, it closed at $1700 and change. Besides the "unnumbered" TG and floorplate, shouldnt the barrel band have a number on the the left side?
yes I followed the bidding to the end,I was kind surprised it went that high, I just don't know.

All three should be serialed, but usually by this range none have acceptance stamps. The RB is correct, the FB and TG-FP are not original.
I think Pisgah said it best, you would be better off not bidding on any of his rifles, most have swapped parts or are enhanced, his descriptions border on hyperbole, just full of nonsense and misinformation. I also agree with Pisgah's comments on the stock, it is probably the original stock, or at least right for this range, but it has been tampered with imo.

I was wondering if the H barrel band looked like it maybe had a number that got peened off since some of mine have a two digit number right where the bare metal is in the auction photo.
