Excellent condition making it rare - but I believe the TC markings are Turkish. Comments please.

TC? That is two L's back to back with a C. Standing for Ludwig Loewe & Company. I kind of feel like this is a salesman's rifle. Or some type of factory workshop model. There's no Prussian acceptance marks. Here is an example of the company's Crest that they would stamp on rifles. You can often spot the crest on Boer Mauser rifles and carbines.

These pop up pretty rarely- They were made for the commercial/export market; likely made with leftover parts from the Prussian contracts. I have removed your link because posting of live listings (even crazy ones) isn't permitted.

I can see some acceptance on some of the parts, underscoring the fact that this was assembled from leftovers. The c/V on the face of the receiver/shroud collar) is also pretty typical for a build like this. You were right that the LLC cypher is for Loewe though.

While scarce, I do think the price is bananas.

Ah. I see it now. I didn't see it at first.

I think $7k is high, but this is also REALLY high condition for one of these.

I've got one I picked up a couple years back on GB for $500, just trying to snag a non-Turkish LL&Co Gew88. I wasn't even aware what it was until I posted a thread here asking about the lack of proof marks on the receiver. It's in pretty rough shape, most of the metal is worn to the point of being in the white and the stock, while intact, is equally worn. Let me put it this way, at $500 I was kind of rolling the dice and half expected to spot Turkish markings on the metal when I got it in my hands. The thing that got me to bid was that it wasn't converted, and most of the turkish guns were updated for stripper feeding.

By way of an example of how much better the condition of the gun in the listing is, here's the LL stamps on the side of my stock:

edit: interestingly, mine has two stamps and the one in the auction has one. Mine is also an 1890, though, and that one is an 1891. Maybe they changed up how the stocks were marked in the intervening time.

$7k is smoking dope all night and finishing off with an 8 ball. Crack head high. Bath salts with a chaser of meth high.

When a rare Mauser with only a few 100 made, with provenance coming from personal collection of Alfons Mauser, nets less than 5k at auction, this is utterly outside the realm of reality. When a 1 of 1 Trials Mauser nets less than $4k at auction, this is just gross stupidity.

If those guns went that cheap that tells me the auction house kind of screwed up and didn't advertise properly. That's ballpark what you'll see decent-but-not-great G/K43s go for all day on GB.

But yeah, $7k for this one is really out there.

From what I saw both were well advertised, well described, and well pictured. One sold at Poulin and the other at RIA.

Keep in mind, I also said NET. Depending on who you are, what your consigning, and the inverse astrological phase, auction houses charge a wide range, but typically 15-30% to their sellers.

So (for those that don't know) if you bid on a gun valued at $5000, your going to bid 15% less, ie $4,250, which will net the seller $3612.50 for a $5000 rifle. (As most auction houses charge both the buyer and seller, though rates vary)
