3 Turret sniper restorations UPDATE: Kriegsmodell has made it home

Hello all,
Recently picked up an ex-sniper from Raupleminze and thought I’d show my (mostly) complete BYF44 L block built on a AR43 receiver while I’m at it. The Ajack & rings are original. I’d like to find a legitimate sniper buttplate for the HT at some point and aside from the small chance someone out there has a 6900 complete bolt that will probably be as good as it will get. I’ve been doing some work on it with one of Brian’s kits as it shot around 3.5 moa before. I’m excited to get it back on the range to try again after installation is complete. The new project is an “I” block byf43 that I’m going to revert back to a low turret. Sadly the only thing sniper or original (barrel is 8mm-06) about this one is the receiver but I’m still very excited to bring it back to life. As you can see it needs pretty much everything I’m hoping between Tulsa this weekend and you gentlemen maybe this will be complete someday soon. It’s cool to have the pair side by side. (My other set of Spielauer HT bases screwed into the 43 just for fun/pics)
Cheers & SF gentlemen.

You did excellent on the first one, I'm looking forward to see the other rifle restored as well!
Admittedly on the first one the only addition I made was the Ajack rig thanks to Dave. It had a Spielauer Khales CAD scope on there when I bought it and had to swap it out with something I felt comfortable shooting. 😁

It should shoot better that 3.5 moa for sure. 2 at most. My restoration brings just over 1. I didn’t use Brian’s kit but I do need to make the trigger slightly light and it will be as good as it gets. I use handloads for it and it unquestionably one of the best shooters I own.

what loads are you using ?

200 grain Nosler With IMR 4895. I can give you a starting point of about 44 grains and do you test for velocity and check the reload Manual for limits on powder. I am getting about 2550 ft/second using Ppu brass.

iv been going with little bit lighter rounds lately 170-175 grain hornady is getting me about 2650fps. I played around with 8mm this summer up north here in Michigan.
the lightest I went was 125 grain and it crank @ 2800fps, but it was very inconsistent with MOA @ 100m. my g43 likes 150grain and I'm getting 3inc MOA @ 100m
but my k98 loves the 175 grain. getting about 1.5-2.0 inc groups. both these rifles shoot ok before I started hand loading.

Restoration #3 in the works. I’ve had a couple parts for this one lying around and got the receiver in from Jack today. Low turret is currently with Vaughn (waiting on a correct barrel) and the search goes on for a barrel for this one. Excited to finish the LT but especially excited for this one as it will be the only Kriegsmodell HT (resto obviously) in my collection. Will go nicely with my late semi kriegs LSR clone. As always if anyone can point me in the direction of 43 & 44 marked byf barrels I’ll be grateful! Love these resto projects, not always financially fun but it’s rewarding putting them back together.

UPDATE:
After spending about a year with Vaughn waiting on a barrel hunt, the byf 43 bmj low turret is complete and back home. Very happy with it and can’t wait to get out and shoot it. As mentioned earlier in the thread when pictured next to my AR43 L block HT restoration, it started out as a barreled action that had been reblued, barrel rechamberd to 8mm-06 and barreled stripped of all markings. I found a 43D marked barrel, blued k block bolt that matched itself, stamped unumbered TG w/ locking screw and milled armorers floorplate and dropped it into the waa135 stock that was previously on my HT (found another for the HT in the hopes it would shoot a little better). Still needing a wing spring for the front ring but other than that I think this is about as close as I can get it for now unless an i block bolt comes along. Thanks to Raupleminze, Dave, Absolut, and of course Vaughn for the work. Once we get moved I’ll be able to send off the BYF45 for a rebarrel. My zeltban is in storage so I used the trusty pancho liner for some pics. All of the rescues and PU resniper I’ve worked on or completed over the last 3 years, hope you guys enjoy.

This one wasn’t a fun resto on the wallet but absolutely worth it in my opinion. I have a soft spot for these sporter (or sometimes receiver rescues). I can shoot them without worrying too much about breaking anything and they will stay in my collection. Very rewarding bringing them back to life.

Received my KM High turret yesterday. Very very happy with this one and excited to have my Mauser trio of LT, HT and late HT completed. As always, restorations are not always practical financially but it’s worth it to me to keep them from ending up in a scrap pile. Another sniper receiver saved and brought back to life. Enjoy!

any story on the PU? a buddy has one we believe most likely a recreation, soo little info out there on the few of these that exist in any state

thx for any info you can provide!

others look great btw!

Hi Learjet,
The PU is believed to be a real armorer’s conversion PU sniper. I’ve got pics of it before I converted it back to sniper configuration and posted it in this thread below. Hope this helps!
