2016 Best Finds of the Year

Well this has been quite the year for me, this is my first post. This is the year that I got my first k98k, and now it is like an addiction. I just wanted to share what I acquired this year and what my favorites are. My favorite this year would have to be a tie between my matching 1938 147 and my 1933 DRP. Its been a busy year and I have also bought some rather common rifles. I hope this year has been fruitful for everybody.

My most favorite find

Hi guys

for me it would be this early WWII German 1st variation, non-slotted, tangent sight, FN P35 Hi Power that I found at one of our local weekend shows. Circa Dec 40/Jan 41 mfg estimate, this has the early WaA613 waffen proofs, is 100% matching as far as I can tell, is still in high original polish, grips are red on the inside, has a mint bore, and has the correct phosphate WaA613 proofed magazine. Short time later, found a 41 dated brown Luft HP holster and the additional WaA613 mag for the pouch. Can't tell you how many offers have flooded in, but its staying where it is!!

Yet another year down and time for reflection, I hope it was a fruitful one for you all. Like all previous years on this forum I'm curious: what was your single best find of the year? Pics or it didn't happen!

Mine was this matching, closet find g41 that I picked up reasonable. I like the feel of these much better than the g43. It's late BLM production, I believe second to last letter block. Tells a pretty gruesome tale.....

That is awsome! If you can ever post more photos in the G.43 section....please do so! Nice!!!!!

Speaking of parts, it would be the scope mount to my G.41 sniper:

Speaking of K98k rifles (as the title of the forum would suggest), it would be the most recent K98k I bought, the all matching BCD/BNZ 4 rifle:

My personal favorites so far are however the Austrian M.95 WWI sniper rifle and carbine I recently had obtained, despite the missing scope on both rifles they are so rare that I am glad that I finally have original samples of both variants from the WWI period.

I sold 1/3 of my collection and finally got down to business on collecting the 10 makes of the K98k. I managed to acquire:

*S/42G bolt MM (already have a matched svwMB)
*1937 S/27 bolt MM
*1939 S/243 Luftwaffe, matched
*1940 Steyr build of 1939 Radom receiver as a G.29/40 Kriegsmarine, bolt MM
*DOU44, matching
*1925 VZ24, depot modified, matching
*AR42 ZF41 RC
*bnz4 matching, then sold to fund an original ZF4 scope
*Depot XII RC build of bcd42 barreled action, coming in January

All that's left is a bSw. I really regret selling mine back in '12.

Got (2) that i cant choose between..(1) was found by Dave Roberts but I benefited from it, and the other was an ebay find.

Dave passed on the lead to a matching Sauer LSR with original optics that had been sported and I came across a sniper parts cache on ebay that i won.

Bring on the projects...!

I've got a few, but specifically in regards to k98's, I'd say for this year it's the AR 42 bolt m/m with the G29 bolt that matches itself.

Congratulations Bigd. Very interesting/desirable rifle. Have you posted more detailed photos?

2016 was an incredibly blessed year for me as a collector. Along the way I managed to expand my K98k collection with some nice rifles, more bayonets, acquire my first few p.38s (love 'em), and get hooked on helmets. Here is my matching byf 41, my favorite piece, and my other best items of the year: M35 DD Heer, M35 DD Luft (early), M40 SS, M35 "Normandy" camo. In front, is a very nice Berg & Co 1940, byf44 "dual-tone" and AC41, both came with the pictured holsters. Happy New Year.
