Very nice. They look like ET M42 Heer and Q M40 Luft. Can you read the lot numbers on those ?

Thanks I appreciate it!You know your helmets, luft is Q64 army is ET64,how can you tell the maker just by looking at them?

The M42 has a pigskin liner, could be a swap at some time.

Possibly but not 100%. This could be a later decaled M42 et. I think the earliest dated pig skin liners are 42 dated.

Yes it is possible to tell what kind of shells they are based off your photos.. The lot #'s are on the back skirt and are important for research. The m42 is very important.

The decal is real and the late type ET that shows up on M42's

The lot numbers are found on the rear skirts. The Q may have a DN prefix, whereas the ET M42 probably has a 4-digit number.

My understanding about pigskin is it was introduced in 1940 around the time of the new M40 model but was not very common then. It gradually became more prominent and was quite common in 1944-45 - hence the collector term 'late war pigskin'. I've seen pigskin on M40s and early M42s. Not a problem in itself.

The numbers on the skirt of the army are 2228, on the luft hard to read here are pics, maybe you can make them out.

Thanks for that info. The M42 was produced in roughly late 1942, the Q DN156 in about mid 1941 IMO.

Thanks!Would or could the pigskin liner be correct for this late 42 helmet? It dosent look to me like it was ever changed out.If some pigskin liners are dated 42 then sounds like its ok.Where would the liner be dated?

yes it would be. As m45 said this was a substitute type of leather and its introduction was earlier just not seen as often.

Now called "late War" pig skin.. That lid is 100% orig and fine. Nice one also.

Thanks!I would like to find a SS helmet but, from what I have heard most out there are not original.Maybe I will run across a bringback but not too likely. Here is one more, its not a combat helmet, civil police?I know these are not too desirable and not worth a lot of money but its a bringback, dont see a production number, but has a marking on skirt.
