1943 Kar98k Help

Fal Grunt just put up an uncleaned, matching bit missing bolt gun on the trader for $1100...just have to find a bolt, figure another $200 for a nice one, and you'll have a good bolt mismatch for $1300...

Okay, I got it now. But for future reference, could you tell me what is so bad about it? I guess to my untrained eye it kinda seems like minor flaws, not to insult any of you.

The problem with the gun you posted is that is advertised as a matching rifle, but has had significant work post-war. Any work done to a 98k post-ww2 is a detriment to its value and interest as a ww2/Third Reich historical artifact.

Now there are plenty of interesting and desirable post-war refurbs. Done in a official capacity by nations ranging from Norway to the USSR. But pretty much any post-war refurb will be worth less than an original German era K98k.

However, what I suspect you have is a bubba special of somekind. At the very least the bolt is. And folks just aren’t really interested in cobbled together builds/fakes done by some random dude… probably to try and make a few hundred bucks back in 2003.

Does that make more sense?

Probably too late, looks like it's already gone, but do contact him you never know if it falls through...

My first “K98k” was the result of total lack of knowledge and impatience. After finding out the truth about it, it turned out to be an all-matching Banner K barreled action and bottom metal, a humped Standard Modell stock and a humped bolt. The barrel is pristine and it shoots very well. I keep it as a memento to my impatient beginnings.

This is great thread regards to pricing, condition, year ect. I’m getting back into collecting k98s and will help with trades and purchase.

God Bless and good luck finding a k98
