Hi,

Buying my first K98 for collection and two guns in particular have cought my interest. This is one of them, the other one is a DUV42 I posted a thread about yesterday. I'm happy to get your feedback.

This one is stated to be matching numbers and original bluing.

Sorry for the limited amount of photos on this one.

IMHO it could be the rifle is reblued. An in hand inspection would tell.

The last image of yours includes the watertag of the auction company. Not sure if you left this on purpose.

Forgot to scrub the mark. Idk, the bolt has me kinda meh. The other k98ks in this lot all have issues.

Compare it with this one here -> https://www.k98kforum.com/threads/mauser-s-42-1936-5366-b.2240/

I think serial on bolt is good, just everything reblued.

Almost always, there is a line marked of blue loss (see attached the two nicest 98 I ever had) across the top bolt flat where the bolt is opened and drawn back. This bolt pic'ed above had me wondering too about the originality of the blue. I was looking for other wear.... and the bolt body, shown in the gun around the extractor's collar does show wear. A close inspection is needed. IMO.

Guns that are super high condition can be deceiving (as when I received my 1941 Port.... I was wondering whether the spectacular blue was orig... it is/was).

Did for you a pic comparison of the rifle in question from this thread versus the one from the picture reference to which I posted a link. Go judge yourself:

Europeans don't seem to care as much about reblue as we do.
You are under the wrong assumption that only Europeans buy in European auctions. Actually a lot of US (and other non-continental bidders) buy at Hermann-Historica of Munich. Re-read the description btw, it states that the blueing is original: https://www.hermann-historica.de/de/auctions/lot/id/899244 . Actually tough to judge from these pictures, so if you are not there in person and buy just because of the description and not knowing better that they are wrong with that ..

PS: comparing prices the live FA Steyr MP44 at € 4400 hammer price would had been a bargain for US -> https://www.hermann-historica.de/de/auctions/lot/id/899259 ;)

OMG. Parts kits have been well over that price for a while now. Amazing price IMHO

My assumption was, at that hammer price plus import, it's cost prohibitive and Americans/whoever would just buy local. But yeah, there was at least one Canadian checking this guy out.
