In this condition I'd start at 3,300-3,500 of course if you can get it cheaper that be great for you. I can't recall ever seeing a 1936 RFV K98K so not common at all in my experience. The rifle all matching and unmessed with, is the reason I recommend 33-3500 but if any mismatched parts are in it that affects the value for sure.
 
Your friend is one lucky guy! I think most collectors would appreciate a rifle like that, I certainly would. I would agree on $3k-$3.5k as a fair price as surviving pre-war K98ks are scarce and the older you go, the less of them there are. A duffle cut won't affect the value but mismatched parts do, check the handguard and bolt internals as I got a seemingly matching Mauser only to find a mismatched firing pin inside. If you do end up with the rifle, you better post more pics of it here!
 
The owner disassembled the bolt but does not want to pull the action out of the stock. He indicated that since his father in-law purchased the rifle it has not been pulled apart. He is afraid he will damage it. Also he looked the cleaning rod over, it does not match. It has an eagle 63 proof and a two digit s/n that doesn’t match
