I had the opportunity to obtain another Polish Mauser recently, it is a 1929 dated K98 carbine made by PFK Warszawa.
It is interesting that although PFK Warszawa made more K98 carbines than FB Radom, it seems that Radom made carbines are more commonly found on the market.
It is a bolt mismatch (bolt is Polish marked and matches itself) but is otherwise matching. Rear sight “slider” button and spring are missing but these are non-serialized parts and I have replacement spares in my box of parts.
Sadly the stock has been sanded at some point and it lost a majority of its markings. Right side of buttstock has the faint outline of the PFK Warszawa shield proofmark. Stock serial number is barely there, but matching numbers on the internal serial number locations on the stock and handguard. No eagle stock proofs visible other than a faint “Z” on the semi-pistol grip.
It is clearly a German capture rework, as the stock has a takedown disk installed (the Poles didn’t install these on K98 carbines from my understanding) which features a Nazi waffenamt. It is tough to make it out but looks like Eagle over 216? It looks like the stock had a very old modification to allow use of a German K98k bolt, as there is a notch hewed out for the sharper downward angle profile of a K98k bolt handle. Therefore, I am to conclude that the Polish K98 bolt is a replacement of a replacement.
The sling appears to be a Czech Vz.24 sling (?) but I could be mistaken. From my limited information on Polish slings, my previous understanding was incorrect and they do not have a cross-hatched texture to them and have a larger and slightly rounder buckle.
I didn’t “need it” but I could not argue with the price and it’s not every day that you can inspect one of these in person and bypass auction fees/taxes/shipping.
