1917 Danzig/Voigtlander Scharfschutzen-Gewehr 98

Congrats on completing this rifle Chris! Completing a Scharfschutzen-Gewehr is something few people can claim to have done and the end result speaks for itself! I hope this thread gets stickied, the rifle and info here are surely worthy of it, right?

Nvm, thread's already in the reference section

Thanks! This was the first sniper Gew98 I bought; It came in a pretty considerable discount so I'm glad my patience paid off. I have a third sniper that will be my next project (Spandau 15) and will likely be the trickiest of all.

We did a little cleaning up of the stickies last year and have them housed under the various links. It's nice to have them easily seen, but they were way too many stickies and it was starting to look to chaotic. I've received more positive feedback on the change so it's here to stay.

Hi guys--- Hope everyone had a nice Christmas.

I thought I'd provide an update here... after looking for a few years, the scope and mount I needed popped up a few days before Christmas. I've seen plenty of other original rear offset scopes, but the correct one was difficult. It's a nice Voigtländer 3x rear offset double claw mount. Rifle number on the scope is 6917e, which I would assume is off a 1917 dated Danzig sniper, but could be 18 too. Fortunately, it even has an original leather eye cup. The mounts fit into the bases surprisingly well and only required very minor fitting (and still a tiny bit more). Optics are very clear except a small spot toward the center of the picture.

I still need to have the screws aligned and fitted(thanks Georg for the reference pics), but it's really looking nice now.. particularly next to its other "cc" block partner with a Goerz semi turret rig.

Excellent score for completion Chris. The original leather cap is a cherry on top!

Chris, what a great full circle on this rifle and scope. You must've been on the nice list this year!!!

For rounding out something so rare like this, a CONGRATULATIONS is truly in order. 😂

chrisftk said "Yeah with the CC block yours is most assuredly a Danzig 17. Would love to see pictures of it. If the date on the receiver is covered they may be Gerard or Oigee bases with a m/m Voigtländer scope. If they happen to be Oigee bases I do have an extra Oigee rig. The scope holder for yours sounds nice too!"
Ask and you shall receive...

That's a nice looking rig. Thank you for sharing the pictures.
