1917 Danzig/Goerz Model M Semi-Turret

On retrospect, "put together" was probably too harsh a term. Restored is more appropriate given that they tried to keep it correct. Cyrus, Sam and I were discussing prior to the auction.

I did like the scope, that was interesting. I bid on that one too, but dropped off after it crossed my comfort level given the mismatch bolt ,etc... The Goerz was more my target and it was up after the WMO.

Did you see how much that one went for? I'm slowly trying to learn prices on the Gew Snipers

Ok Bummer, I was low on funds this past week but always wanted a V.C. Schilling 1915. I was going to trade a rare 98az for that one if the buyer was willing.
I'm sure others will pop up.
I appreciate the response.

With this crazy market, it wouldn't surprise me at all if another one pops up. So many rarities appearing.

Chris, this is an excellent example. Sorry for the late reply, I’m always glad to see these in such detail. Rarely does that occur with rare items like these.

Can't believe it's been 3 years....
Since I had it out for the group shot with my other cc block a couple weeks ago, here are a few better pics. The contrast in stock finish between the two snipers is interesting. This is one of the darker late Danzigs I've seen; I'm used to the orange goop like my other two 1917s.

Very interesting mount and base design, one that does not seem to have been continued to be used later by anyone else. I wonder how effective it was in use. No doubt a cool example.

I'm not sure what the drawbacks were, but it seems a solid system for mounting. If nothing else, it certainly looks cool!
