1917 Danzig Depot 5 Rework

Seeing some neat old rifles is nice but it’s high time we get some fresh ones in here. I picked this up the other day. A Danzig 1917 production rifle that was reworked at Depot 5 (Koblenz).

The bore on the rifle is quite nice. All the parts match minus the screws, bolt, and middle barrel band. Sadly the firing pin was clipped or broken at some point and sadly the stock is cracked at the semi pistol grip. There’s also number on the inside of the floor plate along with an “X” not exactly sure on this as I’m still learning these rifles.

The guy I got it off of bought it at a yard sale a long time ago from an old widow. That’s all I was told as he didn’t know much about the rifle.

If this is the one i think it is, you got an awesome deal on it; congrats! It's a great rework, thanks for the photos.

By the way, the serial number has a letter suffix, think it might be e.

Nice looking Danzig-- definitely right on the Koblenz attribution too. That stock is total late Danzig --the weird orange beech.

Good photos and thanks for sharing!

Confused a bit-- I think we've been racking up some good ones between us all. 🤔

Connor glad to see you finally post this one buddy. You got a really good deal on it. Which is not easy nowadays. I'm glad you kind of ran it by me to give it a once-over as well. Still, your abilities are starting to become pretty keen now you're having a good eye for this. I'll say this you built yourself a fine little Imperial collection so far. You started with what, one rifle? Now you have, what six now! It will be interesting to see what your collection will be someday. I have a hunch it will be very good! Keep up the studying buddy, and keep up the hunting too!

We all start with 1 rifle. Mine was that 1903 Danzig you helped me rebuild, your help combined with my interest in mechanical things and my need to tinker with stuff sparked my interest in WWI guns. In particular these rifles sometimes have more to tell than a standard Lebel or 1903 does, so I find them more interesting. Im getting a decent number of rifles finally. Might be high time for me to get an imperial pistol. 🤔🤔. I also finally got a copy of storz’s book. Maybe that will fuel the fire some.

Like I told you that's a very good book it has a lot of good information in it. I wish it had a better picture references in there and more information on certain manufacturers and rifles. Regardless it's a much needed information book in your library.

Yeah, you should snag a nice imperial luger. Mauser1908/ Sam is a great hand with them if you need a second eye on finish etc..

We all start with 1 rifle.
True that. Once you find your niche, you'll find they multiply fast if you have the patience, time and money to keep rolling....
