This rifle popped up for sale a couple days before I left to attend SOS… The listing was sent to me with a text…. Need a hole in your head😎. Timing wasn’t awesome as no one wants to go to SOS with a light wallet. But as a friend of mine in this once told me….. Buy what’s in front of you. I have been after a good Simson Gew98 for a while and this one fits the bill. It’s not a 100% matching with an unmarked ejector box, floor plate and follower marked 58 (likely from once having a trench mag installed), and the cleaning rod.. But everything else is there and matching original to the rifle build. The rifle has seen use and at one point the receiver looks to have been shined up along with the bolt, probably by a previous collector owner. It’s a hard year/maker to find in matching form and I am happy to be its new owner.

Damn fine Simson, Jory, damn fine. That’s a great one, matching bolt examples are not easy to come by. Even with a couple mismatched parts it’s among the best out there. Thanks for the detailed photos; I’ll get it in the reference!

Congrats on a nice Simson Gewehr 98! Nice to see the stock still untouched and the original bolt on this one, Simson is definitely one of the rarer manufacturers and not easy to find mostly matching.

Thanks guys for all the nice comments! The rifle really turned out to be nicer in hand than in the listing photos. I also picked it up for decent price because of the miss matched follower and floor plate which was a nice surprise. Good thing I got a good shove in the back from Chris….. Sometimes I need one😎

I appreciate the exceptional pictures, I think you covered all the essentials clearly, - I had it on file but only 3-4 pictures, this is a rare rifle in this state!
