I've not posted any G98's in a while but found those old pics. This is an depot/arsenal rework but still has a lot of m/m parts. Unique in that it has a m/m stock but the stock id disk is naval but no other naval markings are on the stock. The disk has been in that stock for a long time. Sorry for the poor pics, they're old.

Interesting rifle, the 1st SB unit marking is different that those found on earlier rifles, cruder, plus it lacks the C/M acceptance in the stock. Hard to say what that stock came off of, the wrist acceptance is rough to read, and wrist acceptance are the most consistent. Probably pre-war anyway, and stock acceptance on pre-war is far more erratic, difficult to trend with any accuracy.

My DWM 1899 W.D.-marked G98 has no c/M on the stock or receiver; wood externally unmarked - no SN, etc. ??

I have no pictures of your rifles, outside of Ball's book where some exist, but ScottB's 1899/DWM W.K does have the C/M, his serial is not far from yours.

Most that I have recorded up through 1907 have the C/M, pretty much all of them that show the stock, though many reports lack stocks or do not show the area, and several are Jeff Noll reports, - a couple of which have surfaced since his book came out. Robert Jensen sent me pictures of some of his rifles, including DWM/1901 WK5026, but most are unknown to originality.

I should mention Scott's also lacks the C/M on the receiver, as you would expect this early. But it has the stock C/M, - which is the same deal with Erfurt/1899 5205 3rd SB, which should be on this forum.
