1910 Spandau G.98M

I may have one more reason to post in this thread. What type of bayonet would have accompanied the average G.98M that didn’t go to live with the Spaniards? Were they re-issued with their G.98 bayonets or with a different style? I purchased a bayonet when I bought it that is more akin to a sword that a bayonet lol, I’ll attach a photo next time I’m at the house.

Interwar bayonets paired with 98M were typically 98/05s that had a blued blade. That's what I would go for, as they are somewhat easy to find....there are others that would also be correct.

I think this is a 98/05, though I could be wrong. It would appear I have the right bayonet with the wrong finish. I will have to correct that. It’s a good thing I just found a neat bayonet display on eBay for this bayonet that I was just looking for an excuse to buy.

Don't do anything to the finish on that bayonet, just buy another one.

WuK started in 1927 but unit marked to Jager, pioneer and late 27 RM; 98/05 is probably most appropriate in this G98M situation, but I use to really liked the Republican WuK/WKC for their rarity, coolness & diversity

Sorry, I’m still ignorant to most of these abbreviations. Are you saying that this rifle is marked to Jager, pioneer and then in late 1927 went to RM? Couple of questions at that point. Who are Jager/Pioneer and RM and what is WuK?

WuK = Weyersberg und Kirschbaum. They made bayos for the Wiemar military starting in 1927 through 1930. I think (not sure though - I'll defer to Loewe or Chris, or one of the other real Imperial/Wiemar experts in the room) that they were the first new build bayos after the war. Most clearly identifiable by a WuK stamp on the blade just ahead of the crossguard, hence the collector shorthand.

They're less common than Imperial-era bayos that were reworked. There were varying levels of rework that you'll see but the dead give away on all of them is a blued blade, which is what Chris is referencing a few posts up.

In addition to bayonets I’m curious about slings. My G.98m has a swivel sling mount on the stock so it would appear as though I wouldn’t be able to use a G98 sling. Were these being packed around with modified slings from G98s or would they have been using K98 slings? Theres a (claimed) Weimar Republic stamped K98 sling on eBay for $900 rn 😖 wondering if that would be more correct than a modified G98 sling.

WuK 27-30 is correct, maybe a stray is possible but it hasn't been seen; generally WuK is 27-30 (all known 29 are RM (navy- which adds weight to the recent thread on dating the navy contract range 98b that group in the e-block. RM was starved pre-28 and the 1929 budget made commercial contracts and experimental funding possible - remember 1927 & 1929 when dealing with KM modernization)

**Jaeger is light infantry; Pioneers are engineers more or less, light infantrymen

***Not likely right for this rifle, 98/05 is best bet, blued of course (I think post 26 is good advice)
