You would have to do the bottom bolt flat, opposite side of the serial.

It isn't likely Spandau made, but possibly/probably Danzig. Spandau was never known to get to the b-block of 98a production. The b-suffix looks Danzig in style and they did b-block routinely. Erfurt also broke the b-block often, but they tend to use an incursive "b".

Does anyone want to poke a guess at retail value on this rifle?

Old thread, but my old thread, so....

These don't show up often, but I paid $1200 for mine (bolt m/m and depot re-barrel maybe 3 years ago and felt pretty good that I got a decent deal) I'd say 14-1500 ballpark. But with these you just never know especially at auction.

Chris is correct regarding predictions at auction; few buyers are probably aware of the rarity of this maker-date, - including as a condition rarity... (1908-1909 Spandau is as rare as normal production runs get... about 10k each year, 1910 is much rarer still) but rarity will take one only so far, - it has that in spades, -but rarity doesn't necessary equate to value, demand is more influential in most cases (as it takes two to escalate value at auction).

This is a very rare rifle, Jeff is as honest and as good man as they come, but such qualities mean nothing at auction, - where hype reigns! (Jeff, my advice is to go to auction with good pictures and stun the few interested, don't use these pictures, or the ones from 2006, the rifle is worth more than $1500 - spoken like a guy who doesn;t have $1500 Biden dollar's...)

Paul, I would only sell to someone who both really appreciated and valued it. Particularly members here, you know that! Im not a mercenary.

As you may have surmised, I have had contact with interested parties, but my motives regarding this particular rifle are more altruistic, it will find rhe correct home.
