This is one of my favorite guns in my collection. Everything is matching, except for the rod. I believe this is an original sling as well, but you guys would know more about that than I would. Interesting that the S cartouch on the buttstock has been X'd out. I have read about that but don't recall why that is at the moment. The imperial cartouches on the stock are pretty good for as beat up as it is. Luckily, nobody sanded the stock or fooled arpund with the metal. Also, has this rear sight been updated for the S cartridge? Again, I have no idea what the unit stamp stands for....I'm thinking something about a reserve unit. It has an excellent bore, but I haven't slugged it to see what it measures yet. Looks like it had a dust cover at one time according to the pattern of the patina.

The rear sight is for Patrone 88, so not updated. Here's a guide for the sights I did a while back:
As to the stock, the rifle was reworked at one point and the c/S was struck out to avoid confusion.
Is there a serial number added to the keel of the stock? That is a typical indicator that it passed through a depot, though not all did that. Have you taken the rifle apart, and does the stock match in the barrel channel?
Is that a 4 (Köln) on the buttplate? I can't quite tell from the pic.
