Picked this up off of a good friend that’s not on the forums to my knowledge. All of the numbers match. It is unit marked to a Garde-Reserve-Schützen-bataillon. I will let you folks help me figure out the rest as I am still learning these rifles.

Note: the rear sling swivel.

I really like this rifle Conner plus the price you paid was very good. And I see the rear swing swivel remember who told you about that lol! The next thing I'll try to find for you buddy is a nice muzzle lid for this rifle. Those can be tough to locate, but they're out there. Still happy for you buddy. By the way are there any Depot numbers on the buttplate by chance? Just curious.

There’s a very small “H” towards the top but other than that the only other marking is the serial number.

Solid Jägerbüchse 71/84. The jäger units in Prussia had a long tradition of having a special model. When the 71/84 was introduced, a special version was not designed for jäger battalions. After much bellyaching, they relented and added the jäger style rear sling sloop. Not much of a difference, but enough for them. Lol

The Garde Schützen were unique in that they more or less were a jäger battalion. They wore the tshako and carried jägerbüchse. These guys were also one of the first to cross into France in 1914 (though they would have had Gew98 by then)

Great pickup
