17 Amberg and some kit

Haven't posted for a while and just finished a project so I thought I'd share. I started collecting Imperial stuff as a kid and a goal was a complete set of late war kit, in the best condition possible, ideally new/unissued. With a few recent additions I'm finally just about there. Still need a couple more nice equipment straps, and a nice flashlight. The Amberg has a few issues but the condition fits and completes the display. Plus it keeps me "on topic" I think unless the mods think otherwise.

That is a great collection of Kit, thanks for posting! There is a lot of late WW2 German gear in unissued or excellent condition, but finding Imperial in the same is tough. Congrats,

Fantastic collection, Imperial kit (and firearms for that matter) are much more uncommon so it's quite nice to see a grouping of it all together. Thanks for posting it here!

Thx for the comments and yes harder than WWII but patience does pay off and I’m still surprised how often nice imperial stuff pops up. And on the bandolier proof that walking the gun shows can pay off as well. Found it on a table at the Allentown show. Worked out to about .50 a round! Was missing 15 rds tho but at the last show I found 15 rds of 1918 dated in original strippers so was able to complete.

I love this. For all the obvious reasons about it being an amazing collection and some nice kit, but one additional one that I think you see far too frequently:

This is an amazingly focused and well curated collection. A lot of people who have a "collection" really just have a bunch of stuff without a central focus, without a key story that the objects tell when taken together. This is an amazing example of a beautifully well designed and well defined collection that was executed perfectly.

Great collection, thanks for getting it all out and taking photos. You would be surprised how many original equipment items end up in the hands on reenactors, i bought a lot of random items to keep them from getting destroyed in the shale at Newville.

your right about reenactors! Great War Militaria used to list items as "too good for the trenches" which always kinda surprised me! Here's a few more f the Gew for those that asked. Condition overall is nice and a good match for the display, but as I said a couple issues. the upper band and one of the guard screws do not match, and the big ouch is that at some point the markings on the butt side appear to be sanded off, tho all the ones along the bottom are fine. go figure.

Can you snap a few pictures of the right side of the stock and the markings on the wrist and keel?

There's a small chance that it's an armorers/ordnance spare stock, as they did not have right side acceptance but did have wrist and keel markings.

Great set, your late Amberg is beautiful! What’s the serial number and suffix? Is the rear sight Gl.V marked?

Ok as requested. no GI.V but wish! it is 40u and also there's the "u" on the buttplate as well. Assume that's typical? never noticed that on any of my other ones but perhaps since they get beat up there generally.

That's a beauty! Thanks for the additional photos. If you ever do a post on just the Gew, i'd love to put it in the reference thread. As for your question, it is typical to have the suffix on the top of the buttplate. But, as you say, that area tends to get beat up, so they can be easy to miss. I've had Gews with rusted buttplates that about obscures the marking entirely. It's also a spot that can be hard to photograph, so it's missing in a lot of the reference thread posts.
