Sounds like a Borsigwalde rifle with the 26 stamping.

looks like ya got a JP Sauer and Sohn 1942 year of manufacture 98k. 37 marking on receiver ring appears correct. Does the bolt match serial no. ?

Keep as is in my opinion. For$250 you did good. Just bang away with it and enjoy shootin a mauser.

Sounds like the going rate for an honest unmolested matching 98k these days. A rare code can bring more.

I would probably go with the AX 41. Tougher code and year to find. More pics would be nice though. Like to know the asking price myself.

Real shame concerning the stock. Think I would replace it too. Nice owning a pre-war 98k
