Remake of Classic All Quiet on The Western Front

This actually looks really good. However, as it is Netflix produced i look forward to a plot filled with multiple gays and their relationships, the presence of a strong, anti-patriarchal woman, a transvestite or 2 and a whole lot of minorities in German and French uniform. I'm surprised the main...

    Spandau 1902 Gew98m

Thanks for the insight, guys. The bolt probably isn’t worth photographing- bolt body and extractor are as rough as the rifle (unnumbered with an imperial marking or 2). The bolt shroud is from a Turkish Mauser and the cocking piece looks like it was made last week. Loewe, i have attached a...

    Spandau 1902 Gew98m

Gew 98m’s hardly appear in Australia, so when this one popped up i grabbed it despite it having issues and being a bit of a mutt. It’s a good place holder for the foreseeable future and a shooter. It’s started its life as a 1902 Spandau, serial 154 hh(?). Has E/6 waffenampts alongside the...

    Interesting '42 bcd

RC stock with early/pre-war bands, M/M floor plate (guessing the bolt is too?) and it may be the light but that bluing doesn't look great..the giveaway "X" isn't on the receiver or barrel to denote an RC but it kinda looks like one- the rear sight shouldn't be blued. Is the butt plate blued too...

    Interesting '42 bcd

More pics would certainly help but if it's a non-RC rig in full ORIGINAL (important) German trim, un-bubba'd with a decent-VG bore i would pick it up. The stock not matching hurts the value quite a bit but honest German K98s are very hard to come by down here. $1600 isn't cheap but I could sell...

French Repro HT Mounts: good from afar, but far from...

So as to not hijack GunKraut’s thread, here are some pics of the repro HT basesand rings I recently purchased from AAS sniper in France. I only had them in my hands for a few minutes before i put them back in a box and sent them off to Vaughan, but at first glance and my untrained eye (I’m a...

Who makes the best repro HT mounts?

Well, Vaughan has just finished soldering the scope to the HT rings I got from France, and based on his feedback, GC is spot on. Vaughan did say that normally they are a lot better than the set I received, and that it looks like he just cobbled together odds and ends to make a "complete set" and...

    Knights Cross Soldbuch

Another outstanding read! Your Soldbuch collection and interpretations are one of, if not my favorite thing about this forum. Did he get issued 3 different K98k's between 1941-43? one of which was an S/24(?) (MB or ERMA?) Cheers Chris

Who makes the best repro HT mounts?

I recently picked up a set of HT rings/mounts from the people in France who make them. They look good, feel solid and I'm happy with the quality. Vaughan has them now and is soldering a scope to the rings. I have encountered one problem with them, however: the front base on my set is not...

    1939 jp sauer

If it's original, unFu@!#d with and all matching anywhere between $2-3 K down here. Having said that, you have to find someone who is knowledgeable enough to know and appreciate what they're looking at as well as the coin to part with. List this on usedguns and wait for the calls/emails with...

    GEW 98 Sniper at IWM

I was there in June, it's a great exhibit with a great collection of small arms, displays, uniforms, artillery etc. If you get a chance, go to the Belgian Army Museum in Brussels- they have an outstanding 1914-18 exhibit with an even better small arms collection- German, French and British...

Round grains used in the First World War

45-46 grains of 2208 with a 200gr match king seems to reflect the sight ranges, I have only shot 100 and 200 with my k98's, but. With an imperial Gew 98 you'll be aiming about 1 foot low at 100 to hit centre but, lol.

Round grains used in the First World War

The S-patrone, used in WW1, was a 152gr projectile, with a MV of 2800 fps plus. The s.S-patrone, as developed inter-war and used in WW2 K98k's, MG's etc., was a 197gr projectile moving at around 2500ish. I use 200gr Sierra Match Kings or Speer SP's in my Mausers.

RIA s/237 SS Rework Rifle (TURD ALERT)

Christ....this one has the lot! Deaths head, SSZZA, runes, even the LSSAH Division symbol (with oak leaves, of course) on the receiver. Probably Sepp Dietrich's or Fritz Witt's personal rifle

Nice story from SOS ZF 41

Awesome rig & story...,buy a lottery ticket! Lol. Are 1942 dated flat butt plate k98's encountered with any kind of frequency? Or is it a replacement stock? Cheers Chris

    A Couple of Period Photos

Perhaps a Gebirgsjager or landser of Heeresgruppe Nord in the swamps, spring/summer of 1942/43? The log road and terrain look similar to photos i've seen of the theatre...? The style of the front band on the k98 dates it at at least '42.

Help wanted on 1936 S/243 Mauser proof marks

Hi, fellow novacastrian! You have a "b" block 1936 k98, made by mauser borsigwald in Berlin. I have an "a" block bolt mismatch by the same maker, 1937 dated. Do you go to seaham range much? Cheers Chris
