    Bluing Wear

Well, not sure there are wear patterns (on hoods) but rather toning and fading with age. Rods, again some toning and some wear from in/out & getting screwed in and contact with the throat & bayo lug.

    Rare 1943 S/42 SS Zf41 98k

We have a reference section for righteous rifles. This one is so bad, we need to preserve the pics of the turds, or at least the super-turds. I recommend we start a new “folder” of these 💩y examples!?

    Full-Figured

I am sure this dot 1943 was shown on this forum, but can't locate. I remember Hambone even joked that it's a camo stock with the stripes. Anyway, amazing wood to share on this "k" block...

byf 45 kar98 help for clarifying

Happy that JRL decided OH was a good place for this rifle. Other than the front band, the rifle looks quite nice. Here are some things I like about this Jan. 1945 build: Deeply scallped receiver Less common barrel maker (44 N 206) E/18 stamped in the stock's barrel channel C* stock, w/ rod...

The larger action screws are matched, and those smaller locking screws were not numbered (but often inspected)

    BYF44 sporter question

I was hoping the stock could be salvageable (and original) but with those faint stock cartouches, the current stock doesn’t appear to be correct for a byf 44

    1944 dot aw block

I am curious... is the wood numbered internally? The "book" suggests "av" was the last block... before "no letter" #50,000 - 70,000 and lastly "a" blocks. October/ November would seem about right for mfg given the table (p. 666). My "au" rifle is numbered.... and not drilled.

    Depot/field repaired rifle value?

Nothing new here. Knowledge is power. Yet, there's a cost associated with knowledge... time & travel. Good deals are harder 'cause more folks have better knowledge while general demand has increased and supply has dwindled. In addition, some good deals are situational such as "I just want it...

    Depot/field repaired rifle value?

Perhaps, though yrs ago value was considered less (perhaps 0.75X). Over time, collectors begin to view textbook examples as rather "ho-hum". Conversely, legit depot repaired rifles are just so interesting and pretty unique, fewer are known, and they are combat rifles that often are a puzzle to...

    Another K98 Example - Depot BCD 41 sn. 4276

Well, what can I say… parts, post war filling of drilled receiver holes, and a stock with extra non-German cross lugs. The original build would be a neat gun, but the current configuration is far from original & not a GI bring back. Above is IMO, only A pic of the bolt numbering would be...
