Another one of my Great Grandfathers

    Büsum belonged to Wehrkreis X (Hamburg) In Wehrkreis X we had: Landesschützen-Regiment 105 https://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gliederungen/LandschtzReg/LandschtzReg105-R.htm Landesschützen-Regiment 106 https://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gliederungen/LandschtzReg/LandschtzReg106-R.htm...

Another one of my Great Grandfathers

Looks like soldiers of a regular Landesschützen Bataillon. Each military district (Wehrkreis) has established several such battalions. Usually the Landesschützen Bataillone were used as guards for prisoner of war camps, important transportation hubs, bridges etc. At the beginning of the war...

    Extended barrel G43??

A report concerning the accuracy of sniper rifles from WaPrüf 2, dated 31 March 1945 confirms this. The report was written by colonel and department chief Haidlen and was intended for Himmler's chief adjutant. (SS-Obersturmbannführer Werner Grothmann) ...... Higher precision can only be...

    Gew98 Sniper ID

Maybe I'm getting old and blind, but I can not make out any modification to the cutout. ??? Can you please point out. Interestingly I found a photo showing a Danzig 1917 rifle with Voigtländer bases that show a similarily swept back bolt.

GEW98 WW1 Sniper * updated with new optics

From my very limited observations on matching rigs I tend to say: Gerard B3x But this is nothing more than an educated guess. A guess. For German WWI sniper scopes, there are about 70 scope/ring variations known. And you'll never know what shows up tomorrow.

BTW: the rings on your OIGEE scope were made by HWZ = Hermann Weihrauch Zella-Mehlis. Well known for WWI mounts and the WWII Short Side Rail mount.

    Gew98 Sniper ID

The cutout looks good for a Busch rifle. Why and when the bolt was bent backwards, .... ??? No idea. But not factory original. There are only very few factory original, matching rigs known out there.

    Gew98 Sniper ID

Rings always have matching numbers to the scope. The rings on your OIGEE scope (I finally found the photos) are original OIGEE rings. Please note that the rear ring was moved backwards to fit the Busch bases. Busch rings rings look totally different. Attached photos show Busch scope cases...

Only the Busch company had the push button on the rear base and a base with saddle on the receiver.

GEW98 WW1 Sniper * updated with new optics

Rifle and bases are very nice! But the scope ….. Typical junk from Spielauer. The Model B OIGEE Luxor 3x scope is a very late war scope or more likely a post war assembled scope. The engraving is not period original. The rings are not correct for an OIGEE scope, but rather for a Gerard...

    Gewehr 98 Help Identifying

There is nothing more complicated than the history of the Imperial German Pioneer Units. The stamp is for the 1st Reserve Pioneer Company of the XIX Army Corps. But this unit existed only on paper. While its weapons, equipment, etc. were stored somewhere, the unit itself was never raised during...

    Gewehr 98 Help Identifying

Sorry, but I have to disagree! A K98b is nothing more or less than a postwar manufactured Radfahrergewehr with a new designation. It has nothing to do with a G98M

Period turret photo from Spielauer book

I have never heard that name either. I know of only three snipers who have been awarded the KC Hetzenauer M. Preiß J. Pein F.

    98k pouch 1944

1250 is the area code for the district of Königgrätz. Wheras I agree that 0011 most likely is RME, I do not agree that RME is not a code. 1) I did not find a leather factory with the RME initials in the Königgrätz district. 2) Some codes beginning with "R" where introduced in 1944. (rbl, rco...
