    Danzig 1917/1920 Gew98m

Just opinion, but I think the stock and bolt are more recent vintage; though this is based upon the inconsistency to current trends and the fact the "1920" coupled with a Republican era re-barrel (which looks mid-1920'ish or early 30's - prior to Hitler) means it was in government hands...

G98M: Imperial, Weimar, and Nazi marks + BS w/ 1920 Stamp

Never mind I am confusing posts, different rifles... beware of post midnight posts, by then I have downed 3-4 beers!

    BCD 43 8637bb

Your barrel was made by Ruhrstahl; the finisher is at the start of the code (which in this case is "avk" Ruhrstahl, AG Bielefeld-Brackwede The bys is the blank provider (Ruhrstal Witten) this would be dropped in early 1944, going only to the finisher code - avk, though Ruhrstal supplied other...

    Danzig 1917/1920 Gew98m

You do not show the bolt or barrel code, so one must rely on guesses more than usual (even more details would be guesswork based upon observations...) My opinion is the bands, stock and probably bolt are not period work, it hasn't been recorded before but the manner of work and lack of stock...

    8mm Portuguese

It's good quality and very popular in the mid-80's, I bought quite a bit in 1984-1986 still have a bunch (white boxes, not strippered, came in large tin cases...) $1 a round seems fair but a Maxim man would know better(I can say I paid a lot less in the 80's, but the dollar bought more then too)

1918 Amberg Gew 98M EWB Stamped Rifle

Do the right side of receiver (will ID the receiver maker at least- S&H were more in use early, Peiper were usually cobble togethers later in the timeline) Close up of the barrel markings and serial-fp might give some idea of whether this was ever "reworked" from a salvaged rifle; my bet is...

    Simson Kar 98B - 100% Matching - Late 1920’s Production - Duffle Cut - Some Depot Work

That is a bit stiff but c-blocks are scarcer than d-e blocks, especially in upper grades. I agree with Ryan, 1936ish barrel probably mated later 30's

1918 Amberg Gew 98M EWB Stamped Rifle

Problems... EWB + Spandau/18 receiver? 1918 Spandau almost always = postwar... the fp supports this in this case (Spandau + EWB is as rare as discovering an honest politician... they simply do not exist - probably...) *** need more pictures to say more or any certainty.

G98M: Imperial, Weimar, and Nazi marks + BS w/ 1920 Stamp

1920 = in government possession during the 1920 round up BS probably relates to the railway security but there are different views on meaning - many relate this to Berlin-Spandau ordnance (HZa); it could be either, but I lean to the former views but mostly because the 98a being most suitable and...

    Reichsmarine Simson "Gew.98" 98b from 1924

There are 5 rifles that show irregularities I attribute to RM; 4 have RM unit markings in one fashion or another. Two not listed are from Scott in the e-block, very close in the 6k range with unique characteristics. These were once on Gunboards but now gone and it would cause heartburn among...

    Reichsmarine Simson "Gew.98" 98b from 1924

Georg, it is a fine example and the barrel is hardly a distraction imo, it supports a common theme (as common as themes get with such a rare variation) it seems, - that the RM eventually ended up with many second hand (among the known survivors), yours is not the only one that suggest subsequent...

    Reichsmarine Simson "Gew.98" 98b from 1924

5 others known, DD owns 323, re-barrel or not (it is of course) is quite a discovery, - from Austria or Germany? How it survived in such a condition is remarkable... but apparently anything is possible these days (the discovery of a Panther and Flak rig takes the cake, but this is a distant...

SCW probably, but the reserialing isn't German imo... With one photo its anyone's guess

    1915 Danzig & 1943 BYF

It appears G & K are dates, not related to model and the Danzig/15 lacks the date code? But the waffenamt being WaA214 places it to late 1935 or later... naturally this may relate to the barrel and the stock suggests much later, 1936-37 perhaps

    1915 Danzig & 1943 BYF

to illustrate the question (dating barrels - this doesn't even discuss the depots involvement and evolution, - just dealing with S&S sourced ordnance spares vs normal 98k production) I will post some trends between the two (I know this is far into the weeds for most but I have always approached...

    Danzig Mauser G98/88 (1907)

The details on the two known is scanty, Danzig was the largest mfg of the 98a prewar and seemingly didn't run significant dual production efforts, - it seems switch overs were major disruptions for Danzig, of course this was true of every operation but this seem more of a problem at Danzig to...
