Looking for input as to what this gun is & how it likely developed

The barrel markings, so far shown suggest Polish, not German anyway... could be other possibilities I guess, one of my specialties is German barrels 1898-1945 and this is not a German barrel, -I follow Polish rifles too, have for two decades, but not one of my specialties. Polish is my guess...

    DWM 1917

PS Awesome DWM! *** TD-G start in the f-block of 1917, but sputters until n-o block of 17

    DWM 1917

The use of Bohler steel (barrels) is largely shared between DWM, Amberg & Erfurt, -Simson rarely in ranges or small groups. The BC placement in FRS is pretty restricted to the three Berlin makers (Spandau-DWM-WOK); Simson was the one outsider among the makers, alone & disliked (so much for Jews...

Looking for input as to what this gun is & how it likely developed

Of course the Poles did fine arms, but they were cheap and reused everything (just not this recklessly), like the Germans during the Republic (on arms anyway... they wasted money on social issues like the SPD always does... then as now Germans prefer socialism and they are the only ones that had...

    Etched renumbered bolt question.

I haven't encountered this exact pattern before but I doubt it is nefarious in nature (looks too natural and "matter of fact" to be fraud), probably postwar but not late; I would say look for other clues but you are an experienced collector and have done something so obvious...

I would argue that it isn't 98k either.... for even good guesses, needless to say knowledgeable answers you need to show the bits in some detail, for the barrel and stock alone show this probably an assembly of parts, best case it is some SCW creation. Even the Poles weren't this "slipshod"

    243 1939 #8087 LK5 marked.

Correct; lot 354 is probably a 1940 barrel, though the mating could be much later - but probably 41-42 based upon limited observations

Koln & Kustrin Reworked 1907 DWM Gew 98

I reserve the "right" to lift (pilfer or plunder) as far as I can get away with it... ! We agree far more than disagree!!

Koln & Kustrin Reworked 1907 DWM Gew 98

While it is a guess, I think the band is good, went through trends search for something to compare 1907/DWM 4239 d was the only candidate that showed bands and they (RB & numeric fonts) are fairly supportive for "original" but you be the judge. 1908 DWM 7710 (May 2018 featured on this forum if...

    Bought this 13 years ago

Well, it is a rather scarce maker-date... the shortened barrel really hits hard though, no fixing that except finding a loose ordnance spare and then those are damn difficult too as most are reserialed, unless Turk spare and in 30 years I have seen only one loose. Could buy a scrapped barrel and...

1903 MAUSER ERFURT serial# 96 Gew. 98. All matching part numbers R96 except cleaning rod #90 UPDATE traded with a forum member my #90 for a #96

A start, when RR or relent data is omitted it is because I simplified to populate the data, will try to fill in and expand as battery permits. Generally it shows the general progression, but leaves much to collector perspective. This is seen on most of the Prussian start up (generally as I...

1903 MAUSER ERFURT serial# 96 Gew. 98. All matching part numbers R96 except cleaning rod #90 UPDATE traded with a forum member my #90 for a #96

I agree this is a rare rifle in this state, but is more rare than the suffix (g) suggests... usually a g-suffix suggests a-g were made... that is probably not the case this early. Running short on time but Erfurt made far less early on than the suffix suggests - 1902 only d&e are known...

    Dou 44 question

milled rear bands are rare, but possible very early (rare though); serialing stops in the aa-bb block; TG stamped is near universal but trends have a couple that are possible. dou is generally very consistent in trends, so too are when things changed, very little deviation within ranges. Knowing...

    Amberg 1903

In 2017 I took the disc as afake unit marking too, and a very bad sign for the remaining components not shown then, but Sam's post shows a righteous rifle. Not terribly common ether! For the curious pictures circa 2017...

    DOU 44 pictures and info

The front band is consistent with trends, e-block has a grouping (and Andy is right, dou is Slovakian, and there is a difference) : 1944 dou 1374 / HMFB (serialed-probable e/135), SRB (serialed along bottom) 1944 dou 3184 / FB m/m, SRB (3184 RBSW) 1944 dou 4658 / SFB (4658), SRB (4658 RBSW)...

RESEARCH PROJECT - Mod. 71 and Mod. 71/84 - Craig Brown

CJ, This was a highly welcome additional identification-clarification as it confirmed the FP, and clarified or corrected the unit placement! (such is as valuable as new reports!); I corrected these flaws and referenced this post on the first page - thanks to your friend too!)

Erfurt 1916, Help needed to ID

One word, modified (non-German done 100%); probably Spanish or Turk service, but the numerous photos are mostly of dubious value for answering questions. (look for stock markings, - the barrel too, but the configuration is not German applied) *** Bob Ball was a fine man, I spent an afternoon...

    K98A Erfurt 1918 White Lettering

Scarce in this condition.... these are not common in "Imperial" state, if the whole follows what is shown I think Krukster is in the ballpark but I am stuck in the late 90's-2000's on price appreciation...

    Well traveled Gew98 photograph

Obviously the man wasn't present when the rifle was destroyed, I guess artillery? ** that man is dire need of a decent meal... practically a scarecrow.
