‘43 98K, Real/Fake? Worth what I paid?

It’s a tough situation, and a poor call on my part. I wouldn’t have bid had I known the seller didn’t take CC payments… attempted to cancel the auction before it ended with the seller and gunbroker and explained my situation. Didn’t work out. $1379 is a rough call if I had to “put on my big boy pants” or ghost the seller and take the “non-payment buyer” title on my account.
“It’s a tough situation, and a poor call on my part.”
perhaps.
“I wouldn’t have bid had I known the seller didn’t take CC payments”

not to sound unsympathetic with your “buyer’s remorse” but terms & conditions are prominently displayed in every listing, right below the photos. if you can’t meet the terms you have no justification in placing a bid on the item, plain & simple. somewhere in registering you agreed to site use conditions, an implied contract, that you’d pay won auctions w/in the seller’s terms & conditions. i don’t love how auction sites work, but if you need to buy w/credit (no judgement) it is incumbent upon you to only bid on items where the seller accepts ccs.

in your post #12 above, you stated that you wanted a ‘real’ K98k that had seen some action & your budget was $1300. you have the 1st, & you are only $80 over your budget, plus the inconvenience of immediate payment. you could back out, what’s your personal reputation worth? (not just w/gb or that dealer, but folks here as well)

your choice.

It now appears that it was accurately described in the ad. My bad for jumping the gun and making an unwarranted evaluation.

If he ghosted the GB seller I wouldn't deal with him. I wasn't really offering it to him, just trying to give him an example as to what is out there in that price range. I think mine would be a better deal based on condition and fully matching but everyone's taste is deferent. byf 44s are really common compared to contract guns. I prefer non-import contract guns over most byfs but that's just my taste.

He just posted a want ad for a nice matching non-sanded k98 with a $1,300 budget. Do you have anything to offer him in that range to help him out?
I agree it would be but what he got is what he got. We have all had to learn a lesson in this hobby one way or another. Honestly this doesn't feel like that bad of lesson. I would rather see him go through with it than not.

With how your post was worded it felt open ended to me thats all. In all honesty it makes no difference to me what he does.
HE has got sound advice from members here the rest is up to him.

I appreciate everyone’s words of wisdom and wealth of knowledge at the end of the day. My reputation can be erased and started over, but that’s not the point, but I definitely came in looking for specific answers and came out with more knowledge than I had expected.

Seriously how is this even a question? The time to have these thoughts is before pushing the bid button. Even if the gun was a total turd, you agreed to purchase it for that amount. Buyer's remorse sucks, but that doesn't mean you bail on your agreement.

If you don't know what you're looking at and if it's fake or not, don't bid. Do some homework, review pics here, ask people here for help, educate yourself. Then go out and bid once you know what you're doing.

If I sound salty it's because this stuff is a PITA to deal with as a seller. Crap like this is why I cringe whenever I see someone with less than 100 rep bid on something I've put up, be it GB or ebay or anywhere else.

Making a blunder is almost a right of passage for this hobby. My first post on the boards was asking about a humped BCD 4 which had what I now recognize as a renumbered bolt and sanded stock. It was my first gunshow K98 buy and I got a bit excited and jumped in without any real research.

I took a step back, got the books, and spent awhile reading the forums and studying good examples. Eventually ended up with fantastic all matching K98 that is a jewel of my collection.

You did better than me - I would argue this isn't even that bad. As others have stated, this will make a good shooter. I agree with the idea that it is likely a sporter rescue.

The seller of the rifle is a legitimate seller and only offers payment through check/money order. I have bought numerous items from this seller and have had an exceptional experience each and every time. With all due respect the person suggesting fraud is talking out of their a$$.

With all due respect the time to ask questions about a purchase is before the auction ends and you spend what is essentially an entire paycheck for an average American, not after. The seller correctly described the rifle and you thought it was worth your bid.

I've also done business with the seller - they are easily recognizable with that backdrop. Never personally had an issue.

Good choice. It has the SS contract connection and because it’s a mixmaster of sorts… you can shoot and enjoy it without being scared of effecting its value.

This happens far too often IMHO... The "hey how'd I do " threads typically don't end well. Its an auction he bid and bid and paid what the market would bear. He wasnt forced or tricked into buying the rifle.
Its clearly listed and shows all it needs to show. SS contract all correct and in high condition is many times the sold price. Buy what you like so if you ever get stuck with it your forever happy with it..

Is the receiver SS contract?
Yes its an SS contract BNZ 43 receiver. Under the serial #9454 there is a lack of suffix or no suffix at all. Personally I don’t like this seller on GB, but its a nice rifle.

ONLY MY OPINION - and what I would say to my friends or my children:
The man that you bought it from is an honest seller. The description was accurate, and he did not deceive you. If you had read his payment instructions, you would have known that he does not take credit cards. I am sorry to say but the onus was on you to read all of the terms on his for sale post and know what you are buying before you push the bid button. IMHO if you back out of the purchase you are saying something about your character and your honest dealing with a seller (which should mean a lot to you as it tells you to yourself and others about your character). Backing out means that you are putting your perceived mistake on the seller. Go through with the deal and learn from it. You will feel better in the end. $1,300 is not the end of the world as long as you are not spending money that you need for higher priorities.
