I apologize if this question has been asked but, if so, I stink at key word searches. I bought high turret mounts and a Kahles H4/60 from Robert Spielauer over 20 years ago and as my career of moving all over with the Marines has ended, I’m finally getting around to getting it all put together. Disclaimer: NO, I’m not going having it put together on a matching K98K. I also bought a Soviet capture K98 many moons ago which is going to serve as the base.
So my local ‘smith is taking on the project but is having a hard time getting the scope base through the solid rings. He’s tried heating up the rings but can’t get the base into the rings past the threads of the objective. I’m certainly no ‘smith but suggested freezing the base as well as heating the rings?
I’d really love to get everyone’s experience / input / guidance on this project so I can pass it along to my gunsmith. They were purchased from Herr Spielauer by me and are not some dubious knock off.
Also, solder or no solder for rings to scope and base to receiver?
