New to collecting K98’s looking for information on a DOU 42

Hello everyone. I have collected WWII German items for years and have just moved into the small arms area. I recently got my first Luger, an all matching 1938 (except magazine) and just picked up my first K98. I hope she fills all the check marks I had set for one. I wanted one just as if I picked it off the battlefield, all matching, desirable code and totally unmolested. The numbered parts are as follows, both of the bands, the rear sight in 3 places, the hand guard, the stock inside the channel and on the bottom between the pistol grip and butt plate, the receiver, the bottom of the barrel has the last 2 digits, the cocking piece, the safety, the bolt release, the bolt handle and it has the eagle/swastika proof mark also, the bolt shroud, the trigger, the firing pin, floor plate and trigger guard. The butt plate, magazine follower and cleaning rod are not marked. Is the rifle missing anything it should have? I know the DOU 42 was the first yr K98 produced at the factory, and only the last 6 months or so. Mine is 7795b.Is the anyway to determine approximately when it was made during those last 6 months? Also, would this be a Heer contract? That’s what I’m thinking, but firearms are new to me. I appreciate any information and thank you for reading.

Is there another view I could show you for anything els?! The butt plate, magazine follower and cleaning rod are not marked on your either? That’s what I really want to be sure of, I’ve read some are and some aren’t. Thank you for the reply

Definitely a used but honest looking piece. Far as I'm aware DOU never marked there stocks on the keel of there K98K rifles so that could be POSSIBLY depot work but just as strong chance someone back in the day thought it was incorrect or they added that to the stock cause it disappeared from use in there mind based on other factory rifles. Check our picture reference section for DOU. (Went ahead and found our reference example and pasted below) There should be a stock code under the buttplate which should have 3 sets of numbers to give you and idea of the assembly date as well.

Early dou 42 rifles had the serial number on the stock keel. Mine is B block as well and has the external number on the stock, although difficult to see at this point on my rifle.

here is mine for reference.

Very interesting, I wish I had grabbed the example that sat on GB for almost a year (chose other examples) but it sold right around Christmas. Whoever Lt.Col Ramirez is, he got and extremely nice example of a hard to find DOU rifle production year. When that sold, my dream of being close to finding all the DOU years disappeared 🤣

Sounds like mine is legit then! Great news! I had a WWII German firearms collector look it over before I bought it. The seller would not let us break it down to look at what was inside we couldn’t see, but I took the chance and apparently he was honest. How many have you seen like ours from the b block? Is the mag follower, butt plate and cleaning rod not numbered on yours either? I’m hoping that’s a yes.

Peter S example is not numbered on the buttplate either, his rifle is also a B block so that seems to be correct for DOU (if they didn't stamp serial numbers on the buttplate then I doubt they did on there rods I'll check volume 2, DOU section tho when I get home from work)

Baby face is a far more experienced collector than I ever hope to be, also found another thread from Hambone stating generally 1941 was when rods were not serialized anymore.

If this is your first K98k, a very good start!

Your "dou 42" got assembled in the beginning of October 1942. But without a branch of service stamp on the stock, it is not possible to say if the K98k was used in the Heer.
