Yes as soon as the hand guards came off its was loose, wasn't even wired to the gun in any way I could take it right off the end of the barrel.

Thanks for the reply just a little background on this piece, My great grandfather with the PPCLI captured this bayonet and k98 byf 44 then brought them back in pieces to Canada back to his farm in Alberta where he used them to put down cows on the farm for many years.
