I agree with the consensus here that it is fabricated. I don't think the Germans would go through that level of modification of the base/mount to supplement another sniper rifle. Also, holy hell that eye relief for a PU scope mounted that far forward would be a nightmare. Anyone that owns PU...
Since that seems to be Gewehr 98 with the Roller coaster sights I believe the lowest the sight will go is 400 meters, which makes sense why yours shoots that high above aiming point. Mine does the same but is superbly accurate. The 98k rifle sights were designed to be zeroed at 100 meters as...
Man I think that's the one I picked up from a forum member about mid last year. I was unable to get it zeroed at 100 meters but sent it to Vaughn and he fixed me up. Just haven't been able to post an update about it. I actually took it to the range yesterday to zero it with some new Nosler 8mm...
Did any WWII German snipers use the alloy tubed scopes? Everything I've read/heard/studied points at "no" but I guess there could be possible exceptions. Post war aluminum tube dimensions are different than steel but would these pre-war civil scopes have been made to the same diameter as the...
Funny enough I just scored an Israeli IDF crested FN 98k this weekend too. But in far superior/almost unissued (probably was) condition. I'll have to post some pictures soon
Yes asking for advice before buying it the smart move to make to not get burned. If it sells before your questions or concerns are answered then oh well. There will be another that comes up. $1000 is a decent price for the rifle but I would've passed for that amount personally. Would be more...
Fair amount for an Israeli would be 700 to 800 but they often go for much more than that. People see them as a desirable variant since you can get 308 ammo is a ton a different varieties here in the US vs 8mm Mauser. Also their bores tend to be very good. They make excellent shooters and are...
Looks like one of the 98k rifles FN did for Israel. Chambered in 7.62x51 NATO and in decent shape. Has the desirable Israeli star on top of the receiver. Check the bore. Most are pretty close to mint but some can be worn out.
My Israeli 98k is marked SWP45. Has that typical Israeli phosphate/concrete gravel looking blue job but the stock is pretty nice. Still has the yellow sticker in Hebrew on it. The bore is what stands out on it. Looks brand spanking new and is one of the most accurate milsurps I own right up...
I think you've figured out the issue. You can always add/remove material from the sight blade to get your true desired result. It suck and is tedious but hardly any of the rifle irons will be 100% when you get them. Have a No4Mk1 enfield in absolute pristine but using S&B FMJ it shoots like a...
I have a K98kF1 as well and my POA is POI. I routinely use mostly 150 to 165gr 30.06 usually Federal, Norma, or Winchester Deer XP. Now that said, I'm not the greatest with irons and have never taken a deer or hog with this rifle but my groups would be enough for vital shots at 100m. I either...
Yes anemic would be the correct term. I used to chronograph stuff when I had more free time. The 8mm PPU WAS less than 2k fps. Totally unacceptable. The S&B was around 2500 and so was some "Russian" branded ammo using new primers but old powder and bullets. It always went bang and pretty...
