1000 yard shooting

Hey everyone. I have a RC K98 that bubba had gotten to. I had sent it to Vaugh to do a HT clone build with a wartime ajack 4x90. Is m75 ammo worth all the hype? I have not bridged the gap to reloading and i am looking for some good recommendations for ammo to shoot a 1000 yards. I have sighted in my rifle with two types of ammo. Ppu match 8mm shot 1& half inch 5 round group. Wartime german ammo shot 2 and half. The ppu is too slow to get out to the 1000. Also is shimming the rifle to accurize it worth it?

S&B 8mm is loaded pretty hot, to the CIP spec rather than SAAMI. trolling the forums, I see both good & bad reviews; I have some older S&B 8mm I may pull down to reduce the loads a bit, made the bolt stick in one of my shooters. But I have not tried the S&B at over 200 yds. not surprised that ppu doesn’t cut it at 1k yds, but I don’t have a place to shoot that far.

I'd make the leap cost wise and try both the M75 ammo (if you can find it) and also grab some Hornady match 8mm that uses there 196 grain bullet.

I see some M 75 at my biweekly collectors club mtg, but rather buy non corrosive if I can.

S&B has a 196gr FMJ version of their ammo that is loaded full house that is very accurate in my experience.
Hornady also has a 8mm Match loading but it's been years since I've tried it.

If you can order online in your state, you can get a decent price rather then finding at a local store.

As for accurizing, I built a High turret out of a sporterized rifle that had been D&T on the top, and the turret mounts covered it perfectly.
Here is a thread i've used for accurizing russian capture k98's that doesn't involve more then adding shims to create a free float up to about an inch front of your bayonet lug that has worked great for me.

Nice range. We have out to 1250 legitimately with our vintage match games. No mountaintops though like this guy. Wide fields with wind which brings into account another tuff variable. For those that shoot, we have a match every year of October here in Tennessee which usually pulls about -35-40 folks. Robski is hard to beat when his daughter, Veronica is shooting with him. Anyone is welcome, just reach out.
