Is this a gun i should avoid shooting? Or go for it?

The potential problems shooting a K98k have been set forth there:
1) broken firing pin
2) broken extractor
3) broken safety
4) cracked / damaged stock, e.g., from recoil (mainly recoil lug setback)

1) through 4) are why I don’t shoot my matching nice rifles. I have two bolt mm shooters. 1) - 3) is why you don’t shoot a matched bolt rifle as those are generally matching parts.

Remember on the Outlaw Josey Wales, the leader of the comancheros kept his guys from boning the little blond in order to keep her value up, and instead told them to poke granny if they had to, because she was only worth two donkeys?
The moral of this story is : shoot granny.

More unsolicited information: recoil lug setback and stock damage can be caused when the triggerguard assembly and/or the recoil lug itself are improperly torqued, loose. The action is then allowed to violently move in the stock. It's always good to have a recoil lug spanner tool head and a simple firearm torque wrench. I also like blue loctite for my shooter firearms. Wheeler makes both. The Wheeler recoil lug spanner is cheap. I have a couple. Nope, Wheeler isn't the best, but their screwdriver set and torque wrench have been plenty good enough for me over the last 30 years or so. You should check your screws and torque on high powered rifles particularly, action screws, mounts, rings, before shooting. Best case if there is a problem is irritating wandering zero and wasted ammunition. Worst case is stock / firearm damage.

See this thread which popped early on my DDG search:

Don't think granny was worth 1/2 a donkey myself!
