Hey everyone, I recently got the opportunity to purchase a k98 off the Canadian market seems to be matching up until refurb for 30-06. He’s asking $3000 CND. These rifles seem hard to come by in this configuration and condition. Feel free to let me know what you guys think. Cheers!

Depends on how you feel about “Norwegian captured” rifles. they’re like a russian capture but with better finish.
I’m not a fan of the .30-06 conversion, weakens the stock in an already imperiled spot behind the recoil lug, many of these conversions exhibit recoil lug breakout due to the combination of removed wood & somewhat greater recoil of the US cartridge. maybe if you had Norwegian ancestry, but that’s more than I’d pay for a ‘another nation’ used K98k. It’s a northern European equivalent to a Yugoslav-reworked K98k, would you pay $3000CD or $2100USD for a Yugo used rifle? I wouldn’t, but it depends on your means.

These are hardly comparable to a Yugo or Soviet rebuilt rifle. Norwegian rebuilds aren’t worn out, completely mismatched/refinished, or oil soaked. Bore is going to be good, and they are usually earlier war guns.

Is it $2,100.00 worth of gun? Not to me. But a Yugo isn’t the metric IMHO.

For $3000?? A definite no.

I don't know if Norwegian captures are more or less common than in the US, but keep in mind that this is in Canada and not only is it $3k CAD but the relative availability of stuff up there is all over the place compared to down here. Want an SVT-40 or a cheap Chinese M1A? Super, SUPER cheap compared to the US. Want a G/K43, K98k, or Gew98? Way less supply, prices way higher compared to what a comparable rifle would get down here.

I don't have my finger on that market well enough to say if this gun is fairly priced, but I've got a few friends up there who collect and it's just a totally different market.

to each his own. I agree that the Norwegian modded rifles are much nicer looking & less crude that the Balkan style conversions, but after looking at Mowzerluvr’s leftover Norwegian stock sets for 18 months & getting no or lowball offers on them, I think of them as pigs w/lipstick. The trigger guard mod for .30-06 really messes them up as far as shooting much. At least the other nations (mostly) left them in 8mm.
