Gew98 to k98 conversion

Saw this rifle and looks like a g98 to k98 conversion . Barrel and receiver match so looks to me like a legit conversion . However i tought all g98 to k98 conversion were done for ss and with scrubbed crest? So is this a post war conversion ? I know stock is not original to this rifle . Thank you

The SS conversions were not the only type of rifle built on a Gew98 receiver. There are army conversions (as in cut down the original barrel, bent bolt, etc..) as well as depot builds that used salvaged Gew98 receivers. (I own one of each such case)

I am not sure which case is rifle is, but if you were able to get a picture of the front sight and under the wood to see if it's the original barrel, that would provide a lot of information.

Pretty sure it is original barrel you can see serial font match the font on receiver.

No. The barrel “3”’s have rounded tops. Receiver has flat top “3”’s. As Chris said, other markings below the wood will give more information.

I believe this rifle is for sale in Canada and that the seller is a member on this forum. The rifle does appear to be a legit G98/K98 conversion and I have a similar rifle in my collection (original crest etc). Sometimes people will remove the stocks and find more information under the stock line as mentioned (SS vs Standard Conversion).

To be honest, with the prices of RC's this rifle is a good buy (I believe the stock is non-matching - but nevertheless a good buy with current market prices). I was looking to purchase it myself by the SVT40 dated 1945 and two all matching K98's depleted my slush fund.

Yeah the seller joined here during last weekend i saw him , this rifle has been for sale forever . Originally they were 2 of them fir sale in a auction lot . This one and the other was bought by a friend of mine . I have seen several g98 to k98 conversion for sale and they were either yugo refurbished or czech/east german refurb . I saw somewhere they used a lot of g98/vz24 receiver to do frankenmauser rifle hence why i posted it here . If action is truly a conversion done by German that is s cool piece to restore for sure . And yes the price isn’t terrible with those freaky dumb Rc prices

That triangle proof is certainly East German or Yugo - I forget which but I have seen it on Post-War Refurbished MP44's, maybe someone else has a better memory than me today.

K98 collecting is a tough game in Canada and there are limited options.
1. Collect original and all matching rifles (need to import, generally sight unseen and expensive).
2. Collect some type of Refurb rifle (Yugo, RC, Norge, East German or RC).
3. Collect early import bolt MM rifles (rare and few in between and many sporterized).
4. Collect and possibly restore the odd bring back rifle that was usually sporterized.

With a limited bank account, I have done all of the above at some point of time to get some interesting code or rifle. In a perfect world I would stick to option #1 - but the time to do that was the Housing Crisis and when the dollar was par. Sellers were motivated and with an even dollar you saved 25-40% in exchange fees, not counting import fees.
