0pinions on the history of this 98k?

I recently acquired this 98k and opinions I've received to date are (a) humped/hack job, (b) Czech post-war rework, or (c) late war BCD stock.

Any further opinions or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Can you tell me what the a next to the 1b meens under the rear sight, and the avk Ab under the barrel

I think you are seeing the Wa18 as a "1 B", that is an inspection mark for Gustlof (maker of the rifle), and the Avk is the barrel contractor. Ab is a steel lot code for the barrel.

The "1b" on the rear sight sleeve is actually the waffenamt e/18 for Dresden. The "a" is the code for the sewing machine company Nähmatag Nähmaschinenteile AG Dresden. They made the sleeve.

The avk Ab is the barrel code for Ruhrstahl, they made the raw forging and finished the barrel, the only firm to have done so, although Edelstahl very likely did so as well. Ruhrstahl used the waffenamt e/13, and your barrel should have that on it.

Gustloff Weimar only used two waffenamt, e/46 for a very short time in 1939, and after that e/749. They never used any other waffenamt, the various waffenamt seen on their production is subcontract parts, - this is why those WaA websites are worthless, the compilers just record what they find on rifles or products with waffenamt's and do not differentiate between makers, assuming the rifle assembler used all the waffenamts.
