"New" K98 advice

If you cannot return it as mentioned above by other members than I would negotiate a return of the price with him.

The buyer needs to post the link to the item description. If the seller has misguided the buyer, exposing his sales practices here will help the buyer gain some leverage (by providing the seller with a link to this discussion). If the buyer has acted careless and negligent, then there's not only one person to blame but two. That's the way it is.

Yes I totally agree. Without seeing the link it seems safe to assume that the buyer is responsible. I am merely trying to encourage him and say that it is not the end of the world. And furthermore to study and learn to prevent this from happening again.

Alot of nerve thats for sure that all I got to say. Never have I seen an Mitchell's Mauser for sale at $2500! Personally I wouldn't give $100 for one.

I think they used to sell their "SS snipers" for 5 figures. :googlie But hey, they came with a certificate of authenticity, with a signature of a German name sounding dude.

First, sorry you got taken, but with all the info available and instant answers via email, you have only yourself to blame for the problem you are in now. Even in the ad the seller states "Mitchell Mauser-Collector Grade". That should have been a huge red flag right there. I do hope you can recover your money but for future buys, ask question first then buy, not other way around!

Mitchell Mauser-Collector Grade

Is this the guy? $2500 for a Mitchell's. I guess the death's head stamp makes it worth that much. What nerve.

Jesus, that's not even a K98. Its a postwar Yugo M-48, made several years after the SS official went away. In original, un-dicked with shape its maybe a $300 gun, tops. I really hope that's not it.

Todd2433 may have himself to blame; but I'll bet that most of us have been there too-- to some degree or extent. His loss is certainly large, and the lesson learned is equally large. As long as we continue in this field of collecting, we will also continue to expose ourselves to these unscrupulous a$$-suckers. I am by far no expert in this field, and greatly rely on information and the expertise held by those forum members here. IMHO, it does appear to be a fraudulent transaction. If so, I would suggest contacting, and getting that web site involved in recovering your loss. Letting them know that they may be a party to this fraudulent transaction if your loss is not recovered. If they are reluctant, inform them that you will contact their State Attorney's General Office and report this incident. I would also inform the seller that you will be contacting, and reporting him and this incident to his States Attorney Generals office. Then do it! You can get the contact information right on the web. They will get involved. If this seller may have violated any BATF laws or regulations, call them also. If any laws or regulations were, or even may have been broken--they will go literally knocking on his door, and their visit will not be pleasant for him. If you suspect that he may have violated any BATF laws, just mentioning what you are willing to do may cause him enough discomfort to refund your money. Good luck.

That's a big IF. As long as it was shipped to him as a C&R holder or sent to his FFL and the NICS check done I doubt they will concern themselves with a guy who duped a buyer into paying more for a rifle than it was worth. For all we know even the seller might think the rifle was legit.

Bad sense of smell

The time has come for you to link or publish the exact item description, terms of use/sale and the seller's name/handle.

You also have to ask yourself why you were readily willing to spend $2,100 on a rifle you haven't even held in your hand for inspection and vetting. I smell buyer's remorse...

Thanks for toy response. However,,if a person wants an item, whatever it might be,and that item is not available to hold and fondle, they will purchase same without seeing and holding it.That is why 100's of K98s are sold on internet websites. Your sense of smell is not working for you!

Resolution of Mitchel Mauser dilema

Thank you all for your helpful responses--both positive and negative.
I have spoken with an owner of Guns International and she was VERY helpful She instructed me to get a copy of their return policy and send it to the seller and that should resolve the problem I did and it did! The seller offered to sell me the rifle for $800 OR I could return the gun and get full refund of purchase price.I have done this [with insurance] and confidently await the check in the mail.Guns International asked to be informed if I encountered any further problems.I felt that they were standing behind the buyer.
Now however, I still don't have a nice K(*.It's been said that estate auction are a great source but I do not see many in SW FL.
Alls well that ends well! And I've learned to ask some very important questions. It's been wonderful to have the "Forum" available!

Oooookay then. No buyer's remorse but you still want to return it....

As they say on Futurerama "GOOD NEWS"!
I also have never seen a k98 at an estate sale or garage sale, but I have heard of them (and big foot too)...
Buying from somebody here is a great way to get started.
There have been some very nice rifles sold on the forum trader here and my bet is that if you posted a Want To Buy ad with an upper limit of 2K, you would have a real (as in not faked) matching number rifle within a few months, if that long.
Anyway, good on you for asking questions and for forcing a refund, that HAS to sting (the seller).
