Hello all,
Now I had an opportunity to make some more pictures of the byf44 I was writing earlier.
So first of all scope mount - on scope mount there is a letter "E" - see picture. Another picture shows scope base - no markings. As far as I can see on repro auctions pictures show different shapes od scope base. On other pictures of legit bases I found in the internet the one on byf 44 rifle looks almost the same, but there should be rifle number.
Rifle stock - according to literature it has all needed stamps and numbers in right places BUT the numer of stamps is more like year 41 production rifle... Under the belt mount there are 2 signs one is "3" another one may be "O", "0" or "Q". Again according to literture its ok.
Bolt - as tonino7 mentioned above there is something wrong with the number, someone, was trying to get rid of it and didn't manage to do so. Other numbers are in places where they should be.
Barrel - byf 44, Wa135 acceptance stamps are in the places shown in books. Rifle number is in place, where number were put with "k" block. Barrel has "1000" and "r" stamp togther also there is "M" letter on it - see picture.
Trigger housing - no number at all but it looks like early 1944 assembly according to literature.
My opinion - first, you may of course have different opinion than I have, please feel free to write it down, I am still learning and trying hard to get into the K98's world.
The rifle has number 2182 year 44 so it means that it was biult at the beggining of 1944 in no letter serial numbers block. As far as my research went thru the internet there are no known rifles with so low number from 44. According to literature in year 44 there 682.200 rifles were biult, it means that with 7days/week shifts (probably wartime standard) it was 1869 rfile/per day or around 2700 rilfes per day with 5days long working week. I think that this rifle was produced at the very beginning of january 44. Maby (big maby) workers needed to push a little bit after christmas and new years eve so thats why the rifle looks in different way - stock, no numbering on trigger housing, no number on scope mount, rifle number in different place etc. Of course there is possibility that it all is crap and made up by some low educated natural gunsmith in his basement...
