This HSc is in good condition overall but sadly is mismatched. The slide and barrel match each other and possibly appear to be "Third Variation" era production as the slide retains a high polish blued finish and lacks the three extra "lines" on the left side. The frame's serial number places production sometime in late 1943 or early 1944, the finish is period correct "Rough Military Blue." The grips show no cracks or other signs of abuse but there is mild staining present and what appears to be slight warping on each. The magazine appears to have a Mid-Late War floorplate and would seem correct for this era frame, it has no markings I can find. I cannot find any markings on the leather holster and it has sadly lost it's magazine pouch. The "downward" attaching flap strap is different than the holsters I am commonly finding with other HSc pistols for sale, though it looks and feels similar to other WW2 German holsters I have examined. The pistol fits in the holster like a glove, it has a strong "memory" silhouette and the two appear to have been together for a long time.
I have only been able to locate one other mismatched HSc pistol for sale (https://www.gunbroker.com/item/973713218), do you think it could have been done as a "Late War Expedient" or do you think it was swapped Post-War? None of the parts appear to have been refinished and the wear overall is natural and concurrent with age. Any thoughts on this holster? It did barely fit a Walther PP, maybe it was for a Mauser M1934?
And the bonus question....
I have always been interested in this model pistol and bought this one just to have as an example in my collection and to learn from. In my research I have found a wealth of information regarding production of these pistols and their eventual dispersal to various branches of service, and no shortage of modern images of each of the many variants...but not one period photograph of the Masuer HSc being used during WW2 have I been able to locate - can you find one??
