WW-I Carbine Muzzle Cap

I wonder about this muzzle cap. It latches to a lip on the rifle. It isn't stamped steel that just hooks over the end of the gun. It has a machined cap, too.
Can anyone tell me about it? I was told once it was as valuable as the gun it is attached to.

That would be the correct muzzle lid for a Kar98a carbine. Scarce lid to find, and when you do find them. Normally they sell for good money.

I have seen them sell between $200-$225 on ebay. More if they have unit markings on them. Nice 98a lids are harder to find then Gew 98 lids. Now I have been lucky finding them in display cases at gun shows for $60. And that is due to the dealer advertising them incorrectly as 98k lids lol!
