I am going to build a custom 375 for a elk and African Safari. I want to use a Mauser action For its controlled feeding feature. Since I know very little about Mauser actions I was hoping someone here could put me on to an action or rifle to buy.

This really isn't a good forum for that topic. I would recommend you visit Accurate Reloading http://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve

I'd first recommend writing out a list of what you want and what your budget is.

There are a lot of good gunmakers out there.... and a lot of bad. Do your homework.

Matt at

and Ed LaPour, if you want to contact him I can privately give you his email and phone number.

Those three are all fantastic gunmakers and likely provide you with what you want.

just a thought, how much cartridge do you really need? somewhere here on the forum are pics or vid of K98s being used today ( in 8mm) as a polar bear defense weapon.

And, did you see the nice modern Sauer rifle listed on the trader here last week ? (IIRC)

In many countries in Africa, 8x57 is not an approved cartridge for big game hunting.

A .375 H&H in a Model 98 action will require a lot of work and is not ideal. A M1917 action or better yet a P14 action will be a better choice. If you can find one. This kind of project will end up being more expensive than buying a rifle in the caliber you want. Didn't used to be the case in the old days, but definitely is now. If you are dead set on using a Model 98 action then a .375 Ruger would work much better.
